Teen Wedding
Part 6

Margie and Tommy soon discovered life in Dothan was a bit more complicated
than their honeymoon in Atlanta. Every Dothan woman over the age of 40 gave
Margie a knowing smile when they saw her on the street. Every girl at Dothan
Central High School looked at Tommy and wondered about the equipment between
his legs. He was a hero to the boys and a curiosity to the faculty.

About three months after their wedding, Tommy started getting headaches at
school. They'd start about bout 10:00 in the morning and wouldn't end until an
hour after he got home. Nothing worked on the headaches, not Tylenol or
aspirin. Eventually it got to the point where it affected his performance on
the wrestling mat. He had trouble keeping up with the other wrestlers. He
felt winded and out of shape. The coach was convinced he was smoking and
kicked him off the team. Finally, Margie insisted he go to the doctor.

By coincidence they saw the same doctor who had treated Margie two years
earlier when she tried to quit smoking. He took x-rays and asked him lots of
questions. In addition to the headaches and lack of endurance, Tommy
described nervousness and anxiety. The doctor turned to Margie and told her
that Tommy was displaying all the classic signs of nicotine withdrawal. One
question led to another, and before the appointment ended, the doctor
diagnosed Tommy's problem.

"Mrs. Johnson, I'm afraid Tommy's headaches and anxiety are a result of
smoking. Of course this also explains his lack of endurance."

Connie raised an eyebrow and crossed her eyes. "Tommy, when did you start
smoking?"

Tommy was confused. He had never really smoked a cigarette in his life. He
had no idea why the doctor was saying this.

"Its not Tommy, Mrs. Johnson. It's you. Tommy's symptoms are a result of
your second hand smoke. At 14, Tommy's lungs are still developing and every
pack of cigarettes you smoke around Tommy has the affect of him smoking five
cigarettes him self. How much are you smoking these days?"

"Five packs a day."

The doctor wrinkled his face in disgust as he did the math. "Tommy smokes the
equivalent of 30 cigarettes a day. No wonder he feels the way he does. The
poor kid is addicted to your smoke."

"What should we do?" asked Margie.

"As you know Mrs. Johnson, I'm very familiar with your history of nicotine
addiction and quitting is definitely not an option for you. And because you
two are married, I see no practical way for Tommy to avoid your second hand
smoke. Tommy has literally become addicted to your smoke. I don't think you
have another option other than to allow him to start smoking."

"I don't want to smoke", argued Tommy.

"What about nicotine gum, or patches?" asked Margie. "Won't they work?"

"Gum and the patches can't deliver nicotine to the body as effectively as
cigarettes. Besides those are tools for quitting and as long the two of you
are married, Tommy won't be quitting."

"Shouldn't he use them when he's in school?" asked Margie.

The doctor shook his head as he took out his pen. "I'm writing a Tommy a
medical excuse which will allow him to smoke in school." He tore the page
from the pad and handed it to Margie who put in her purse.

Margie lit a Virginia Slim and backed out of the parking spot.

"What are we going to do?" asked Tommy. "I feel so bad. Its feels like my
skin is crawling."

"I know you feel bad Honey. You'll feel better in a bit. I've got the
windows rolled up and I'm going to smoke a lot."

"Am I going to have to start smoking too?" asked Tommy.

"I don't know Honey."

"I don't want to smoke Margie."

"I know you don't Honey. I don't want you to start either, but I don't know
what else we can do unless you want a divorce."

"I don't want a divorce. I love you."

Margie was right. Tommy began to feel better as the second hand smoke in the
car made its way through his lungs. On their way home, Margie stopped at a
drugstore and bought Tommy some nicotine gum. "This should help", she said as
she handed the box to him.

Margie was still stinging from the doctor's words. She had really made a mess
of things. She had made an addict of her beautiful young lover. The idea of
him smoking made her sick. She thought about his mother. What would Connie
say when she found out? Maybe she didn't have to know.

They talked about it over dinner. Tommy would become a closet smoker. No one
had to know. He would smoke when they were alone or when no one could see
him. He could chew the gum in school and when they were around his parents.
She convinced him that it would work.

Margie put off the inevitable until bedtime. Tommy watched her from their bed
as she took off her make-up and smoked. Then she put on a sexy silk nightgown
and came to him.

She sat on the bed beside him holding the green striped packed of Virginia
Slims and a lighter. "How do you feel?" she asked.

Tommy admitted that he still had a headache but it was better than it was
earlier in the day.

Margie took two cigarettes from her pack and handed one to Tommy. "You'll
feel a lot better after you smoke this."

"Do I have to?" whined Tommy.

Margie smiled reassuringly at her young husband. "Don't worry Honey. It's not
as bad as you think. With as much second hand smoke as you've already
inhaled, it probably won't even make you cough. Just take it easy at first
and do what I do."

Margie put her cigarette between her lips and lit it. She gently pulled on
the filter and removed it from her lips. Tommy watched in amazement as the
smoke inside her mouth disappeared down her throat as she breathed in. And
then it returned as she exhaled through pursed lips. "Now you try it", she
said.

"But this is a girl's cigarette" protested Tommy.

"We'll get you a pack of Marlboros tomorrow" said Margie. "Now put the
cigarette in your mouth so I can light it for you."

Tommy did as he was told. He pulled gently on the filter as Margie lit the
cigarette. And then he breathed in as he pulled the cigarette away. The
taste of menthol flooded his mouth. His lungs filled with pleasure and he
exhaled without coughing. He quickly did it again and again.

"Not so fast", warned Margie. "You'll get dizzy if you're not used to it. So
what do you think?"

"I like it" said Tommy. The look on his face was genuine. It both pleased
and disturbed her. "Can I have another one when I finish this one?" he asked.

The next morning when they woke up, Margie put her cigarette to Tommy's lips
and told him take a puff. Tears began to form at the corners of her eyes as
she watched young Tommy smoke from her hand. "I'm so sorry", she told him.

At breakfast she made him smoke two Virginia Slims before heading to the bus
stop. She promised that she'd buy him some Marlboros so he wouldn't have to
smoke girl cigarettes any more.

Tommy hoisted his book bag across his shoulder and bent down to kiss his wife.
"And don't forget these", she said as she put some nicotine gum in his shirt
pocket.

She watched out the window as the bus rolled down the street and stopped in
front of their house. He waved to her before climbing into the bus. And when
the bus was out of eyesight, Margie picked up the phone and called her best
friend.

Tommy's grandma answered on the second ring. Dorthy hadn't heard her friend
sound this glum since Luke passed. She listened patiently as Margie described
their visit it to the doctor. She told him about letting Tommy smoke last
night and this morning. "I feel so guilty," said Margie.

Margie pressed the phone to her ear. She heard the sound of Dorthy lighting
her cigarette and exhaling. "Its not the end of the world," said Dorthy.

"But he's only 14," protested Margie.

"Yes, he is 14. But he's also married to you. Smoking will probably be good
for him. Maybe this will mature him a bit. What are you going to tell Connie
and Robert?"

Margie answered the question with silence.

"Don't worry about it Margie. It will all work out in the end. What about
school? You're going to let him smoke in school aren't you?"

"Tommy doesn't want to. He doesn't want his friends to know he's started."

"Well he can't be a closet smoker forever. That's just not good for him."

"I know," said Margie, "But I don't want to rush him."

They talked for perhaps an hour. Dorthy repeated some of the things she'd
overheard the town's women talking about. They talked about their church and
Tommy's ejection from the wrestling team. And when they were through talking,
they said goodbye.

Margie hung up the phone and picked up her purse. When she walked into the
convenience store the clerk behind the counter recognized her on sight and
reached for a carton of Virginia Slims Menthols. "Can you get me a carton of
Marlboros too?" asked Margie.

"Box or soft pack?" asked the clerk.

At 4:00 that afternoon, Tommy got off the school bus and walked in the door
groaning and holding his head. "Didn't you chew the gum?" asked Margie.

"I did," said Tommy, "But I still have a headache. It's awful."

Margie took a pack of Marlboros from the carton and pulled off the cellophane.
"Here Sweetie," she said. "I bought these for you. Try one."

Tommy didn't argue with her. He took the pack of Marlboros and lit up as
quickly as he could extract a cigarette and light it. His face flooded with
relief as the smoke hit his lungs.

"Feeling better?" asked Margie.

Tommy nodded as he took another puff.

Margie lit a Virginia Slim and took a seat in the chair across from Tommy.
She stared at him in awe as he puffed away at the Marlboro and lit a second
one. For the first time in their relationship she saw him as a man. Was it
the cigarette? Whatever it was, she liked it and it made her wet between the
thighs.

"Do you want to fool around?" she asked.

Tommy didn't have to be asked twice. With all the commotion about his
smoking, he had missed his intercourse dates with his wife both last night and
this morning and was desperate to unload. He walked tall behind his wife to
their bedroom carrying his pack of Marlboros.

"This isn't bad at all," he said as he propped his head against the pillow and
lit another Marlboro. "I'm not kidding Margie. I really like it a lot."

Margie smiled at him. "I'm glad," she said, "But I think you'll like it even
more if I do this."

Tommy flinched as Margie wrapped her lips around his rock-hard penis. He
groaned as she swirled her moist hot tongue against the flesh of his staff.
"Don't forget to smoke," she told him. "Its better when you smoke."

Tommy leaned back and inhaled the thick Marlboro smoke as Margie's mouth
worked its magic on his penis. He came before he had time to finish his first
cigarette. He remembered what Margie had told him about inhaling while the
orgasm hit. He thought he was going to die from the sudden burst of pleasure.

As Tommy lay motionless against his pillow, Margie pulled her self up and
removed the smoldering butt from between his lips and kissed him. "I love you
my little Marlboro Man," she said.

Margie gave him a couple minutes to rejuvenate before lighting up and climbing
on top of him. His penis felt so good inside her as she rocked her self to a
smoky orgasm. Afterwards, they shared a cigarette and talked about their day
and things to come.

"Did you tell any of your friends that you started smoking?" asked Margie.

"I wanted to tell Sam but I chickened out."

"You know it would be easier on you if you took the doctor's note to school."

"I want to," said Tommy. "But I'm afraid of what the other kids will say when
they see me smoking."

Margie inhaled a deep puff and exhaled it in her husband's face. "They'll
think you're a grown-up," she said.

Tommy smiled as he thought of her words. "You really think so?" he asked.

The next morning, Tommy smoked from the time he got out bed until the time he
walked out the door. He thought about taking the note to school with him, but
decided against it. He didn't want his parents to find from some one telling
them that they had seen him. They deserved better than that, but he knew he
wasn't up to telling them yet.
