Kim and Mark, Part 7

Chapter 7

"Hi, honey.  There's been a change in plans.  I'll home in two weeks from
today.  I'm leaving Seoul tonight and heading back up north for ten days.
We'll be finishing up our training on Wednesday, and leave Korea on Friday
morning.  We'll get back to the post Friday afternoon and once our equipment
is taken care of, I'll be home.  You don't need to pick me up, I'll have one
of the guys drop me off as soon as we're done.  I love you and I can't wait
to see you honey!" 

Kim quivered slightly from the news as well as from the wine and the
evening's events.  She took another long, deep puff from a VS 120 and
thought about what she needed to do from now until Mark got home.  Kim
wanted to find just the right outfit to wear for Mark when he got home.  She
also decided not to smoke in the house again a week before he got home.  She
wanted everything to be a complete surprise.  She finished her cigarette and
headed upstairs for bed. 
When she awoke, Kim had the slightest feeling of a hangover.  Just a bit of
pressure somewhere in the front of her head.  "Not bad," she thought to
herself as she sat up in bed and took a cigarette from her pack.  She
inhaled twice and felt the pressure subside.  Kim turned to look at her
reflection in the mirror behind her bed.  Although she knew she looked great
in the morning (as Mark often reassured her) she thought she looked like
hell.  Most women would love to wake up looking half as good as Kim, but she
didn't feel particularly attractive this morning.  She reasoned that it had
something to do with last night and resolved to take a long shower and dress
up as nicely as possible to improve her mental self image. 

Kim selected a blue silk blouse and short black skirt with a pair of 2 inch
heels.  She felt much better as she sipped her morning coffee and enjoyed a
third cigarette as she read the morning paper.  Her mind was distracted
though as she thought of Mark's homecoming and had yet another concern over
his reaction to her smoking.  Kim knew it would be next to impossible to
quit if Mark had for some reason changed his mind or if she had
misinterpreted his feelings about the issue.  Well, enough was enough.  She
resolved not to think anymore about it or about what had happened last
night.  She had no feelings for Phil and no intention of ever seeing him
again.  It was time to move on to living in the present and preparing for
her husband's homecoming.
