THE NIGHT TO REMEMBER

3.	Away for the Weekend.

The next morning Tom drove home in a daze. He and Jenny had fucked three
times and in the process he'd smoked a whole pack of cigarettes. His mouth
felt dry and his throat hurt from smoking too much. But he had a big grin on
his face. He'd had a great time, though he felt a little sad that it was
his next to last night as a single man and as a smoker.

Tina noticed the smoky stench on his clothes and in his hair. But she
said nothing, probably because she knew he'd be quitting soon enough. They
visited the florist and finalized the rest of their wedding plans. That
evening was their rehearsal dinner. Neither Bill nor any of the others
mentioned his abandoning his bachelor party. Tom was glad. He didn't want
Tina to become suspicious about what had really transpired.

That day and the next morning, the day of his wedding, Tom smoked only
sporadically. The ceremony was at two in the afternoon. Tina looked
gorgeous in her long white wedding gown. She was the picture of innocence
and for a moment Tom forgot all about his incredible night with Jenny. The
wedding reception lasted into the wee hours and, true to his word, he stopped
smoking as soon as they officially became husband and wife. Finally that
night they bid farewell to friends and family and checked into a hotel near
the airport. They shared a nice night together making love, although Tom
couldn't help comparing sex with his new wife to his experience with Jenny.
He found himself wondering how Jenny's job interview went. But he dismissed
the thoughts. He and Jenny would never see each other again. That was for
the best. He was married now, and he'd also officially quit smoking.

For a wonderful week he and Tina honeymooned in the Caribbean, having a
great time in a little cabin on the beach. Upon returning home their life
returned to what soon became normal existence. Tom still traveled far too
much on his job. As she did before the wedding Tina still complained about
it. As an administrative assistant for an insurance company executive she
never had to travel. She frankly resented Tom's frequent absences. He
repeatedly told her his traveling for business was a fact of life, one that
wouldn't change unless he got a promotion.

For the next 18 months Tom and Tina settled into married life. In many
ways being married disappointed him. He hated to call it boring but in many
ways it was. Their sex life turned out not to be what he hoped for or
wanted. He sort of thought it would improve once they were husband and wife.
But it didn't. Part of the problem was Tina's attitude. She carped
constantly about his job and how little quality time they spent together. He
wanted to tell her that if she didn't stop complaining pretty soon he'd
never want to come home. As for his old smoking habit, for a few months
after they got married he kept his promise to quit. But on one stressful
business trip during the fourth month of their marriage he fell prey to the
old temptation and impulsively bought himself a pack of Benson & Hedges
100's while he was out of town. He smoked in his hotel room on that trip,
and it soon became his routine whenever he traveled out of town. Only
occasionally did he smoke in town but he began to do it regularly while on
the road. Traveling two-thirds of the time, this meant he was smoking fairly
often once again.

He was almost certain that Tina knew he was secretively smoking again.
But for some reason she never acknowledged it or complained. If she knew she
undoubtedly resented it, and he worried that at some point she'd bring it up
to use against him. But she never did, and he wasn't about to raise the
subject if she didn't. An uneasy truce developed between them regarding his
secretive smoking habit.

Finally it happened. A year and a half after the wedding Tom got his
promotion. It meant his out of town travel would drop dramatically as a
result. Tina seemed pleased, though Tom was less so. It meant he couldn't
indulge his secret smoking habit so easily anymore. But the money was better
and he hoped more time at home with Tina would make her happier.

A week after getting news of his promotion Tom got a call from his old
friend Bill. He hung up the phone with a big smile on his face. Tina wanted
to know why.

"Bill's getting married," he laughed. "I can't believe it! Bill!
He's such a playboy. As long as I've known him, ever since we were at
Wharton, he's been with a different girl every single weekend. I just never
figured any woman would ever be able to tie him down!"

"Tom, that's great," Tina replied. "But from the look on your face I
can that's not all. There's something else. Come on, `fess up. What
else did Bill say is going on?"

"Well, he wants us to meet his fiancée. He rented a house at an
exclusive resort community an hour away and he wants you and me to join them
for a weekend away. It's next weekend. I'm not sure we should." He
sighed. "Even though you've sort of become friends with Bill over the last
year and a half, I'm not sure it's exactly your idea of a perfect
vacation."

"Don't be silly," Tina objected. "I like Bill a lot, although he's a
little wild for my tastes. But he's funny and he's always been a good
friend of yours. I consider Bill a friend, too. I'd love to spend a
weekend with him and his fiancée if he wants us to. We can also make it a
celebration of your promotion. So it's this next weekend?" Tom nodded and
Tina smiled. "Go ahead and call Bill back. Tell him we'd love to join
them. It might be fun. We've never done something like that with another
couple before."

Tom did call Bill and told him Tina was all for it. He was frankly
surprised she was willing to share him with another couple. All her
complaining about his frequent absences were still ringing in his ears. But
he was glad she was willing to do it. Though he and Bill had lunch together
often whenever he was in town, it'd been a long time since they spent
serious time together. He agreed with his lovely wife; it might be lots of
fun.

That Friday Tom left work a little early. He and Tina drove to Paradise
Resorts, a plush community consisting of luxurious private resort homes
nestled in a rural area an hour from the city. They drove up the long
driveway of the large house on the hill that Bill rented. Tina whistled out
loud.

"Wow. This is a _nice_ place. Luxurious is the right word to describe
it!"

Tom turned off their car and looked around. Yeah, Tina was right. It was
true. The house and grounds were quite impressive. But Bill and his fiancée
hadn't yet shown up. So he and Tina spent time exploring the house,
admiring its exquisite décor and the views it offered of the lush countryside
below. The house even had an enclosed private pool behind it. It was pretty
luxurious. But then for as long as Tom knew him Bill was never afraid to
spend money on a good time. He and Tina chose one of the two master bedroom
suites to settle into and waited patiently for Bill and his fiancée to
arrive.

An hour passed and still no sign of them. Tina decided to put her things
away in the drawers in their master bedroom while Tom paced through the
house. As he returned to the bedroom suite he raised his eyebrows.
"What's that?"

"This? Oh, it's nothing," Tina grinned nervously. She let out a sigh.
"Actually, Tom, it was gonna be a surprise. I decided I've been way too
predictable and boring in bed. So I bought a few new things to spice up our
sex life a little. I wanted to surprise you." She held up an almost
transparent, low-cut, very short pink negligee for him to see. "You like?"

"Uh, yeah," Tom grinned back. He was stunned; stunned but pleased.
"Tina, what's gotten into you? You always said that you felt that kind of
sexy outfit is slutty, even insulting to women. Don't get me wrong. I like
it. I think it's great. But I don't understand. It's not your style."

"Yeah? Well then, maybe my style needs to change," she beamed
mysteriously. "Maybe I need to loosen up a little." She gave him a sly
grin. "Do you want me to try it on for you?"

   "Now?"

"Yeah, sure, why not? Bill and his fiancée aren't here yet. I can give
you a little fashion show. I bet you'd like it if I loosened up. Wouldn't
you, Tom?"

No answer was needed. The look on his face said it all.

"Leave me alone a minute and I'll put it on for you," Tina grinned.
"I'll yell when I'm ready."

Tom left the bedroom, closed the door and waited in the hall. After a
minute she called to him. "Time to come in, Tom," he heard her say.

He opened the door. Tina had on a skimpy, see-through pink negligee and a
pair of white mesh stockings attached to a white garter belt. Her long blond
hair, which she usually wore on top of her head, had been let down and fell
sensuously over her shoulders. He gasped.

"Oh Tina, you look great. To say I'm surprised is a gross
understatement."

"I'm glad you're surprised, Tom. I want our sex life to be more
exciting from now on," she effused. She sauntered over to him and gave him
a peck on the cheek. "I figured this might excite you a little. Was I
right?"

"Oh yeah, you're so right," he quickly agreed. He took her head in his
hands and gave her a long sensual kiss. "It's exciting, all right."

"Then let's make love, Tom. Right now. It looks to me like you're
ready."

It was true. His cock was now hard inside his slacks. However, he looked
around nervously. "But Tina. Bill and his fiancée might get here any time.
What if they show up?"

"I don't care," she said, jutting out her lower lip and giving him a
sultry pouty frown. "We're married, Tom. We have nothing to be ashamed
of. Unless you don't want to?"

Tom shook his head from side to side. The thrill of his lovely wife
wearing a seductive skimpy negligee overcame all his reservations. Taking
Tina in his arms he kissed her. She responded. With his hands all over her
they slowly moved over to the bed and toppled onto it.

He was so excited he could hardly wait. Tina didn't seem to mind. In
seconds he unhooked her garter belt and pulled down her panties. The fact
that she was wearing a sexy little thong that he'd also never seen increased
his ardor. He was acting like an animal and she let out a deep guttural
giggle in response. He ripped off his pants, exposing his stiff cock.
Gently she took it in her hands, guided it quickly toward her uncovered pussy
and helped him insert it inside of her.

Usually Tina was reserved when they had sex. But not today. She let out
a loud laugh, squealing with delight. "Oh yeah, Tom. Ooh, that feels good!
Make love to me, honey. Yeah, that's nice! Oooh!"

Tom was pumping like a madman. Tina responded in kind by gyrating her
body wildly in reaction to his powerful thrusts. They never heard the front
door open or realized that they had unexpectedly acquired an audience. With
a loud groan Tom finally came, shooting his cum into her with a series of
spastic movements. Tina wiggled and giggled in reply, allowing her own
orgasmic sensations to release simultaneously.

"Oh God," he moaned passionately. "Oh, yeah!"

After a brief moment of silence they heard an amused voice speaking from
the bedroom door. "Well, looks like you two decided to start the weekend
out right!"

Horrified, Tom swiveled his head. Two figures stood in the doorway.
"Bill, I'm so sorry," he groaned, rolling over and vainly attempting to
cover up their nakedness with his discarded slacks. "We didn't figure
you'd get here before we finished."

"No problem," his friend laughed. "I'm a big boy, Tom. I've seen
this stuff lots of time in movies. We just didn't expect to see you guys
doing it. But don't worry. I suspect it'll actually just help get us all
into the proper frame of mind for this weekend."

Tom pulled his pants on and flashed his friend a mortified smile. Tina
likewise covered herself by buttoning up her negligee. "Bill, this is so
embarrassing," she groaned. "We never expected you guys to get here while
we were doing this."

"Like I said, no problemo." He looked at the beautiful woman at his
side. "Jennifer, I'd like you to meet my best friend Tom Reynolds and his
lovely wife Tina. Tom and Tina, meet Jennifer Manning."

The woman by Bill's side was a gorgeous brunette. She looked strangely
familiar. Tom blinked. It couldn't be. His eyes must be playing tricks on
him in this embarrassing situation. "Hi, Jennifer," he blushed. "It's
unbelievably embarrassing for us to have it to happen like this, but it's
very nice to meet you."

The brunette giggled. "Hi, Tom and Tina. It's nice to finally meet
you, too. Bill told me _so_ much about you I feel as if I know you already.
Please, don't be embarrassed. Like Bill, I'm no prude. I don't mind if
you guys make love out in the open like this. It's kind of cool to walk in
on you like this, to be honest."

Tina stuck out her hand to shake Jennifer's. "Jennifer, thanks for
understanding. I don't care what you say, it _is_ embarrassing for us. But
your blasé response helps me feel a little less appalled that you walked in
on us like this." She looked at her husband. "We should've closed and
locked the door, I guess."

By now Tom had his pants and shirt on. He finally stuck his hand out to
Jennifer. "Nice to meet you." He looked, this time gazing into her
flashing eyes. Quietly he gasped. The smile on her pretty face was
familiar. Too familiar. No, it just couldn't be. It simply couldn't.
But it most definitely was!

Jennifer was talking. "Tom, I know you and Bill have been best friends
ever since you were at Wharton. From the time he proposed all I heard was
how important it is to him that you and Tina like me. So I hope our catching
you in the act won't make it harder for you to accept me as the future Mrs.
William Hunt." She grinned. "Seriously, it's nice to meet you both."

Tina giggled. Tom just stood there, his mouth agape. "Jennifer, I'm
sure Tom and I will like you just fine," she said. "As long as you don't
think we're sex-crazed maniacs or something I'm sure we'll have a
wonderful weekend together." She touched Jennifer's arm. "Thanks for not
reacting adversely to it."

"Like I said, Tina, it's no problem for me." She nuzzled up against
Bill and giggled. "Look, I know you know that Bill's pretty wild. He's a
real party animal. So it's not likely that he'd propose to a total prude
when it comes to sex, now is it?"

"I guess not," Tina laughed. "Look, let us get dressed properly and
we'll come out."

"Perfect," Bill agreed. Jennifer turned to leave but Bill lingered.
"Look, guys, don't worry about us finding you naked. It's totally fine.
But there is one thing I need to tell you about Jennifer. She's definitely
no prude, like she said. But it's something else, something that I hope you
won't be upset about. I should've told you before so you could be prepared
for it."

Tom was reeling because he already knew Bill's fiancée in a way no one
could imagine. So it was Tina who finally replied. "Sure, Bill, whatever
it is I'm sure it'll be fine. Jennifer seems very sweet. What is it, some
kind of medical condition?"

"No, it's that she smokes," Bill whispered guiltily. "Tina, I know
you hate smokers. And Tom, I know you finally quit after you guys got
married. God, I should've told you before. But I was afraid you might not
come if you knew. Please, Jennifer's really a great girl. Keep an open
mind about her even though she smokes. I told Jennifer that you guys don't
smoke. She graciously agreed not to smoke here in the house except in our
bedroom and outside. Okay?"

Tina spoke first again. "Bill, that's no problem. We don't
necessarily approve, but we don't really care that much. We won't hold it
against her or anything. Will we, Tom?"

Tom stuttered his answer. "No, I guess not. Yeah, we don't mind."

"Tom, you look upset," Bill frowned.

He nodded. God, if he only knew the real reason. "No, I'm not upset.
It's just the embarrassment of being caught in the act with Tina, I guess.
You know?"

Bill grinned. "Don't even think about it, buddy. It's a non-issue for
me and I know for Jennifer, too. Hey, thanks for being willing to accept
Jennifer even though she's a smoker. It means a hell of a lot to me. I
tell you, she's definitely the one. You know what I mean?"

Tina smiled. "Don't worry, Bill. We know. Both of us are looking
forward to getting to know Jennifer."

After Bill left, Tom and Tina got dressed. Tom's head was spinning. How
did his best friend wind up proposing to the same girl he fooled around with
the night of his bachelor party, especially when she was a smoker? Bill
rabidly disapproved of smoking. He always had. The surreal nature of the
whole scenario made his head hurt. He had to talk to Jenny or Jennifer or
whatever she was calling herself now to make sure she didn't inadvertently
say anything to reveal their interlude that fateful night!

After getting dressed Tina continued putting away her stuff in the
drawers. Tom wandered into the living room. Neither Bill nor Jennifer were
anywhere to be seen. He decided to take the risk of wandering down the hall
to the other master bedroom suite.

The door was open. Inside he smelled the familiar aroma of fresh
cigarette smoke. He groaned. God, her smoking wouldn't make the weekend
easy for him, though he couldn't exactly admit that to anyone but Jenny. He
lightly knocked on the bedroom door.

   "Come in."

He entered. There she stood, in a tank top and short shorts. They
revealed both her ample breasts and her lovely long legs. Her hair was
shorter and curlier than the last time he saw her. But there was no doubt
she was the same girl.

"Hi!" He nervously greeted the grinning brunette, vainly trying not to
look like he was checking her out. "Jennifer, you look strangely familiar.
Have we met before?"

She answered in a low whisper. "Hey Tom, cut the bullshit. Okay? I
already know who you are and you know me. I suspected it when Bill first
began to talk about his best friend Tom Reynolds and Tom's lovely blond wife
Tina." Raising her cigarette to her lips Jennifer took a long hard drag.
Tom groaned. He recognized that maneuver; he'd definitely seen it before!

Through parted lips she released a long and effortless exhale. "Don't
worry, honey. Bill knows nothing about us, and I'm sure Tina suspects
nothing, either. So this won't change anything. Our little fling a couple
years ago can safely remain our delicious little secret."

"Right," he sighed. "And that's important to both of us, isn't it?
God, Jenny, this is really _so_ weird! I never imagined I'd see you again.
But you look great. Really, you do."

"God, so do you, Tom. In fact, you look fabulous." The brunette
unashamedly held out her cigarette to him, offering it with an enticing
smile. "Hey, want a drag?"

"No, no thanks, I quit," he replied with an insincere but polite smile.

"Bullshit, Tom," Jennifer shot back with a big grin. "No you didn't.
Look, I knew when I saw you purposely breathing in some of the delicious
smoke coming from my cigarette. No, honey, you definitely didn't quit,
though you probably told Tina you did. I can tell. But you haven't had one
today, have you? When did you smoke your last one, Tommy?"

Hearing her say that nickname, the one she used repeatedly during their
night together, made him gulp. "A couple days ago," he guiltily admitted.
"But Tina thinks I quit. You can't say anything about it, Jenny."

"Don't worry, Tommy. I won't. And please, call me Jennifer. If Bill
hears you calling me Jenny it might tip him off. He never calls me anything
but Jennifer. And I won't call you Tommy except when we're alone like
this," she promised, hitting on her cigarette. "Oh my God, that tastes
_so_ good," she teased heartlessly. "Are you absolutely sure that you
don't want some of this? You know, I'd be happy to feed you smoke on the
sly this weekend."

He shook his head from side to side, though his mouth began to water.
"Tina would smell it," he helplessly whimpered. "I can't."

She exhaled. "Yeah, I suppose you're right," she smirked. "But too
bad for you. Bill's gotten quite used to my smoking all the time," she
went on proudly. "But I gather that Tina never became enlightened like you
hoped she would?"

"I never said I wanted Tina to learn to smoke," he protested.

"Not in so many words," Tina snickered. "But you'd have loved it if
it had happened, wouldn't you? That's because you love to smoke, Tom. And
before this weekend's over I promise that eventually you'll join me and
smoke a cigarette or two with me. Won't you?"

Before Tom could answer he heard Bill approaching from the hall. "Hey
Tom. Getting to know my lovely bride-to-be?" He breezed past him and put
his arm around Jenny. "Jennifer's the best girl in the world, Tom," he
proudly grinned. "I just know you'll like her."

"Tom and I are gonna be great friends, honey," the brunette said, giving
Bill a peck on the cheek. "He's so sweet. In fact, he was just reassuring
me that he doesn't mind if I want to smoke anywhere in the house this
weekend. He understands, Bill. Tom used to smoke himself."

"Yeah, I know," Bill nodded. "But Tom finally quit, honey. Someday
you will, too; at least I hope."

Jennifer put her cigarette to her lips. "Yeah, who knows? Maybe someday
I will," she said with a playful little smile before hitting on the burning
cylinder between her fingers. "But you've finally gotten used to it,
haven't you, sweetie?"

He kissed Jennifer on the cheek as she exhaled. "Yeah, she's right,
Tom," he winked. "I never thought I'd say this. But Jennifer's smoking
really doesn't bother me. I still want her to quit someday. But I decided
I can live with it if I need to." He kissed her again. "And at least for
now she says I need to," he added, hugging her. "You understand, Tom,
since you used to smoke, too. You kind of get used to the smell after
awhile, don't you?"

"Uh, yeah." Watching his best friend snuggle with Jenny made him feel
strangely jealous. Plus, the sight of her smoking and the smell of her
cigarette drove him crazy. "Hey, I'm gonna check on Tina."

"Let's all meet on the patio in the back of house in five minutes for a
drink," Bill brightly suggested. "I want you and Tina to really get to
know Jennifer this weekend. I just know you'll wind up thinking that she's
really special."

"Bill, honey, Tom, Tina and I are gonna get along just fine," Jennifer
predicted with a subtle wink at the horrified Tom. "And Tom, I really
appreciate your willingness to ask Tina if it's okay with her if I smoke in
the rest of the house while we're here. As soon as we gather out on the
patio for a drink you and Tina can let me know if that's okay?"

Tom returned to his room in a funk. Jenny, or Jennifer, was as wickedly
enticing as ever. Her flirting, combined with her sensual smoking, were
driving him nuts. God, he didn't know how he'd ever endure a weekend with
her. But one thing was sure. Tina would never agree to let Jennifer smoke
in the rest of the house. That would eliminate one area of temptation. He
decided to ask his straitlaced wife in advance so he could get it out of the
way.

Tina's answer shocked him. "Tom, I really don't care if Jennifer wants
to smoke in the rest of the house. After all, she and Bill are paying for
it. We're their guests this weekend. I think it'd be impolite for us to
say no. Don't you?"

"But honey, you hate the smell. You always have. Jennifer already
agreed to limit her smoking to their bedroom and outside on the patio. I'm
sure you'd be more comfortable if she abstained everywhere else."

"Nonsense, honey. I'd be uncomfortable putting unwelcome limits on one
of our hosts. That'd make me _really_ uneasy. Smoking's a terrible habit
and I personally don't approve of it. But technically it's their house. I
appreciate Jennifer's readiness to voluntarily limit herself but if she'd
prefer not to, Tom, I don't think it's our place to say she should."

Astonished, Tom nodded agreement. Tina was all about being polite. If
she felt it was impolite to keep Jennifer's smoking limited to the bedroom,
she was clearly not going to do it.

Five minutes later all four of them gathered on the patio. Bill broke out
a bottle of red wine and poured glasses all around. Tina wasn't ordinarily
much of a drinker but because Bill was their host she graciously accepted a
glass.

"So, Bill, tell us. How did you and Jennifer meet?"

"Tina, I'm glad you asked," Bill grinned. "I'll tell you. Jennifer
works in the public relations department at Smith Thompson & Company
downtown. A few months ago a mutual friend dragged Jennifer along to one of
the bars where I often hang out. We met that night and immediately I liked
her. After all, she's so incredibly cute and full of life," he said
impishly, squeezing his fiancée's hand. "We were inseparable that night.
I asked her out again the next night. One thing led to another and pretty
soon it was clear to me. I realized Jennifer is the one girl I can actually
imagine myself spending the rest of my life with!"

"That's about the story," Jennifer concurred, picking up a cigarette
and putting it in her lips. She promptly lit it up. "You see, I always
used to be a conservative girl," she said with a shy grin and a knowing look
at Tom. "But Bill's helping me break out of that old shell of mine. For
example, I never used to go to bars and clubs and places like that." She
hit on her cigarette. "I never knew how much fun it is to party," she
giggled, exhaling into a breeze that carried her smoke in Tom's direction.
"Bill is helping me learn how to have a good time."

Bill spoke up. "I know you guys are wondering about it, so let's get
this out of the way. You never imagined I'd date, let alone marry, a girl
who smokes like Jennifer. Right? Well, I was as surprised as you are. But
I was attracted to her that first night even though she smokes. In talking
to her I realized she's a very interesting and sincere person, someone who
can teach me a lot about life. I've never known a girl who talks with me
the way she does." He squeezed her hand again. "Jennifer being a smoker
eventually simply didn't matter to me. Maybe I'm getting more open-minded
in my old age," he grinned. "Oh, and I should also admit, the great sex we
have might also have something to do with it!"

"Bill!" Jennifer groaned in mock disgust.

"Jennifer, if you've won Bill over then you're a better woman than
hundreds of others we've known," Tina smiled warmly. "You know he's been
around. So if he's willing to settle down with you then you must be very
interesting. I'm certain that Tom and I will love getting to know you
better."

"That's what this weekend's for," Jennifer nodded, hitting on her
cigarette. "Bill and I are _so_ happy. I feel like I was dead for years,
but I've finally come alive by hanging out with Bill and his friends. But
even if you two aren't part of his partying crowd, you're important to him.
I almost feel like I'm auditioning," she frowned, looking momentarily at
the ground. "I really do hope you'll approve of me."

"Jennifer, of course we will," Tina nodded enthusiastically. She put
her hand over top of Bill's and Jennifer's. "Won't we, Tom?" She
looked and he nodded. "We should make sure both Tom and I have plenty of
time to spend alone with you, Jennifer, without Bill around." She gazed at
her husband who tried not to look shocked by the suggestion. "I want you to
feel that we're really your friends, too, Jennifer. I'd really like that.
Wouldn't you?"

She smiled shyly. "Yes, Tina, thank you. I _would_ like that very
much."

"Good. Then it's settled." Tina looked at Bill. "So did you bring
along enough supplies for the weekend? One thing Jennifer and I can do
together is cook for you guys. Are you up for that, Jennifer?" The
brunette nodded. "So let's not eat out. Jennifer and I can cook dinner
together tonight and tomorrow, too. If that's okay with everyone, then
Jennifer and I should run to the store and do some grocery shopping right
now. What do you say?"

"Sounds great, Tina," Jennifer nodded. "I love to cook."

"Me, too. Then it's settled. Jennifer and I will spend some quality
time together shopping for groceries. You guys can engage in some manly talk
or whatever it is you do."

Before Tom or Bill could object the two women headed out the front door to
the car to drive to town to the store. Tom sipped his wine and looked at his
old friend. "So, Bill, how much do you really _know_ about Jennifer?
Marriage is a really big step, as you reminded me almost two years ago!"

"Yeah, I know," Bill grinned. "She's different than any woman I've
ever been with, Tom. Once you get to know her, you'll see what I mean.
Plus I have to tell you, the sex she and I have together is fuckin'
incredible. She's an absolute wildcat in bed. I've been with lots of hot
girls before," he grinned proudly. "But Jennifer's the best, hands down!
I mean it. We fucked that first night and I swear I'd never experienced
anything quite like it. She's so sweet when you first meet her and then
once you ride her in the sack -." He whistled. "Let's just say you
pretty much _have_ to keep coming back for more, if you know what I mean?"

Tom nodded. Unfortunately he _did_ know. "But what about the smoking
thing? Jennifer seems like a pretty heavy smoker. I thought you never even
talk to girls who smoke, let alone ask them out?"

"Yeah, that _was_ always my rule. I stayed away from girls who smoked
because they were just too damn stinky. But somehow Jennifer's different,
Tom. I can't put my finger on it exactly. It's like the smoking is just
part of her, part of who she is. It doesn't offend me like it always did
before. Like she said, I've gotten used to it, I guess. I still hope
she'll quit someday, of course. But I'll leave the timing up to her."

"She may not," Tom warned. "Quit, I mean. Oftentimes smokers never
quit. If Jennifer's really a heavy smoker she may disappoint you."

"Are you trying to say you don't like her?" Bill suspiciously examined
his old friend. "Is that it?"

"No," Tom protested. "I'm just trying to make sure you thought it
through. Lots of smokers never really quit."

"But you quit for Tina," Bill countered. "So obviously it can be done
when you really care for someone. Right?"

Checkmate. He couldn't admit the truth to his old friend. "Yeah,
you're right," he finally muttered. "Okay, maybe Jennifer will quit for
you someday."

"It doesn't really matter, Tom. Like I said, Jennifer's very funny,
she's upbeat all the time, never depressed or shit like that, and she's
also so fuckin' great in bed. She loves partying with me. She's like a
kid who's found the key to the candy store. We have a great time going out
and a great time staying in and humping each other in bed. I can't imagine
being without her, Tom. I'm sure you feel the same way about Tina. Right?"

"Yeah, of course," Tom smiled bravely. "Once you find the right girl
you never want to let her go."

"Hey, what do you say we play some pool? There's a pool hall down in
the rec room. Up for it? We can even put a little wager on the game. I
love taking your money, old buddy!"

Tom was glad to finally be done with the subject of Jennifer Manning.
"Sure, you loser. You're on, Bill. And we'll see who takes whose
money!" So they went down to the rec room to play pool. Tom felt relieved
to think about something other than the gorgeous Jenny Manning.
