Mr. Wong's Noodles
by Asiansmoker

Author's note: This story takes place in Hong Kong. We begin this story as
Kristy Yang's mother, Mrs. Yang, has just informed her daughter that she has
found employment.

Chapter one:

"But mom, I don't want you to work. I want you to pick me up from school
and then you can buy me popsicles or ice cream on our way home, like you
always do." Kristy said

"Listen Kristy. We need the extra money if we want to continue to live
here, to live as we do, to continue to send you to Wong Hau school. It's a
prestigious school and I know you like it there. You want that, don't you?"
Mrs. Yang said.

"Yes...but, is there any other way? Kristy asked, knowing there wasn't any.

"Sweetheart, I am doing this for us, for you." Mrs. Yang said to her
thirteen year old daughter.

"But mom, how do I come home from school. Can I return home on my own? May
I get the key to the flat? I'm in seventh grade now! I'll be fourteen in
March!" Kristy asked, hoping she would.

"No Kristy. This is a rough neighborhood. You aren't old enough to walk
home on your own yet. Here's what I want you to do, dear. I want you to go
everyday after school to Wong's Noodles. You know where that is?" Mrs. Yang
asked.

"Yes mommy." Kristy replied. She had been there before, with her mom, it
was a five minute walk from school.

"Just get yourself a bowl of noodles and stay there until five thirty in
the afternoon. I'll come and pick you up after work and we can go home,
together. I'll give you money to eat each day. Don't forget to eat, because by
the time I prepare dinner, it will be around eight o'clock and I know you
can't last that long." Mrs. Yang commented.

"You're right mom, thanks." Kristy laughed. She always ate dinner at six
o'clock or earlier. Kristy enjoyed eating noodles more than anything, and it
didn't make her fat either. Kristy was exactly five feet tall, had long dark
hair, slim build, the only thing that distinguished her from other grade
sevens was the size of her breasts, which were rather large. It's a topic
Kristy has always been embarrassed about since her breasts grew larger the
year before.

For the next two weeks after school, Kristy made her way to Wong's noodles,
just a few minutes away from school. Other schoolmates of hers, older ones,
also frequented there, she noticed. Kristy sat at the same table, day after
day, and ate a bowl of noodles. Yesterday she had beef ball noodle soup, today
it would be chicken. The owner, Mr. Wong, grew to know Kristy from her daily
visits. They didn't talk much, but Mr. Wong knew Kristy was a regular
customer. Things went well until a thursday in october.

Kristy had finished her bowl of rice noodles a little earlier than usual.
It was four thirty and her mom wouldn't be there for another hour. She decided
she'd pay the bill and ask Mr.Wong if she could just sit around until her mom
came and picked her up. She reached into her purse and pulled out her "hello
kitty" wallet. But when she looked inside she discovered she didn't have the
money to pay for her bowl of noodles.

"Oh no! I must have forgotten the money on my dresser this morning. What am
I going to do?" Kristy said. She began to panic and looked through her
knapsack to find any money that may have fallen out, she noticed some paper
clips, a few Pokemon trading cards, but no money. She was a little afraid and
went over to discuss the situation with Mr. Wong. He didn't take it well.

"Little kid!" He said. "You eat my noodles and you don't have any money to
pay? Are you trying to rip me off!" Mr. Wong shouted, and this got the
attention from the other customers in the restaurant.

"I promise my mom will pay, she'll be here in an hour!" Kristy cried out.
She was upset at the tone of voice Mr. Wong was using.

"Until then little kid, tell me what you are going to do. Try and run
away?" Mr. Wong shouted.

"No! I promise. My mom will pay!" Kristy shouted out, to try and match the
loudness of Mr. Wong's voice. She knew everyone at the noodle shop was looking
at them arguing. Mr. Wong still looked angry, so Kristy became fearful of him
and wanted to cry. "If you want, I can wash the dishes, or sweep the floor, to
pay for my noodles..." She said and waited for Mr. Wong's reply. But before he
could speak, someone else spoke up.

"Hey...You're Kristy, from school, aren't you?" A girl said. Kristy turned
around and recognized her face from school, she was in grade nine. Kristy
didn't know her name though.

   "Yes...and you're....you're..." Kristy asked.

"I'm Ruby, Ruby Wong. Don't worry Kristy, I'll take care of this..." Ruby
said and gave Mr. Wong the twenty-five dollars for his noodles.

"You are fortunate you have a friend who paid for you. If I were you, I'd
thank her and be in debt to her..." Mr. Wong said in a demanding tone. Kristy
smiled and turned to Ruby .

"Thanks Ruby. Thanks so much. I owe you one...I'll ask my mom for the money
and pay you back. I promise. Thanks." Kristy said and smiled, grateful for
what Ruby did for her.

"No problem. Hey; I overheard you say your mom isn't picking you up for
another hour."

"Yes, that's right. And...how did you know my name?" Kristy said.

"Everyone kind of knows of you, you know, because of, well, it's kinda
embarrassing..." Ruby said, pointing to Kristy's large tits." Kristy
understood and felt shy.

"Why don't you come and sit with us, at our booth, until your mom comes."
Ruby said to change the subject. Kristy nodded. "Wow!" She said to herself,
she was going to sit with some grade nines. This was so exciting! Kristy
picked her bag up and walked over to sit at Ruby 's booth. Kristy noticed Ruby
had two friends sitting there. She recognized both girls from school. Just as
Kristy was about to sit beside Ruby, she noticed both girls were smoking and
each had a pack of cigarettes in front of them at the table. Kristy became
tense. Mom told her not to hang around smokers. Kristy also saw several
cigarette butts in the astray and knew they'd smoked quite a bit. Kristy began
to feel uncomfortable around these smokers.

"Hi guys, this is Kristy. She'll sit with us. Kristy: These are my friends
Betty and Vicky." Ruby said. Kristy nodded and sat down beside Ruby. She sat
at the edge of the seat so that she'd catch as little smoke as possible from
the two girls. Ruby caught on to this and began to prod Kristy.

"Hey Kristy, ever smoke before?" Ruby inquired. This shocked Kristy a
little.

"No, it's nothing personal, but my mom told me that smoking is bad for you,
that only bad people smoke and smoking is addictive and if you try it, you're
dead meat." Kristy said, recalling the numerous warnings from her mom.

"Dead meat? That's funny Kristy. What if I told you I smoked?" Ruby said.

"Oh no, Ruby smokes too, that's makes three of them. All of them smoke. Oh
my Gosh I'm sitting with a bunch of smokers, mom will kill me." Kristy said to
herself while Ruby sat there beside her, giggling.

"Hey girls, give me a cigarette!" Ruby asked and Kristy's eyes opened wide.

"Oh no! Ruby's really going to smoke!" Kristy said to herself. The girls
saw Kristy was uncomfortable and grinned at each other.

"What's wrong Kristy, haven't you ever seen girls smoke before?" Ruby asked
as one of the other girls handed here a cigarette. She held it in her right
hand, right next to Kristy, which made Kristy move to the edge of the bench.
Ruby reached for something on the table, it was a lighter. She picked it up as
she brought her cigarette to her mouth and lit it. Kristy noticed Ruby's right
cheek hollow as Ruby sucked on the cigarette. Ruby tilted her head to her
left, away from Kristy, and exhaled towards the wall. Kristy blushed, thinking
she didn't belong with these girls.

"Yes, I've seen girls smoke before, it's just that: My mom told me that
smoking is so unhealthy, it smells bad, it stains your teeth and it's really
bad for you, it's addictive and she also said that only bad people smoke and I
shouldn't hang around bad people who smoke, so I think I must leave now."
Kristy replied, now wishing she had never sat at that booth. Ruby turned to
face Kristy and grabbed her arm..

"Kristy. How bad can I be, I just paid your bill for you and got you off
the hook with Mr. Wong. Was that a bad thing to do?" Ruby said. Kristy thought
about it and realized that Ruby did save her from a potential hazardous and
surely embarrassing situation. Ruby certainly wasn't a bad girl then. Kristy
thought to herself. "Ruby's not a bad girl, but she still smokes. Why?"

"No, that was a nice thing to do, thanks." Kristy said. Ruby let go of her
arm and for some reason she decided to stay a little longer. She was hoping
her mom would pick her up any minute now so she didn't have to breathe in
second hand smoke anymore. She waited for another opportunity to leave the
booth.

"I guess us smokers aren't all bad, then, are we?" Ruby asked Kristy after
taking a drag from her cigarette and blowing it out towards the counter in
front of them. Kristy noticed the wave of smoke traveling across the counter
and coming out on the other side where the two other smoking girls were
sitting. The other girls dragged on their cigarettes and exhaled their smoke
towards the counter as well, this time it towards the direction of Ruby and
Kristy. The cigarette smoke hit Kristy like a wave, she was certain her
clothes were smelly by now.

"No, you're nice. Thanks, really." Kristy said, knowing she couldn't leave
after how Ruby just helped her. The three girls looked at each other and Ruby
then looked at Kristy and brought her cigarette towards Kristy.

"C'mon, have a drag..." Ruby asked Kristy. Kristy began to slouch forward
in her seat, hoping she'd disappear somewhere.

"No thanks, I don't smoke, I said that already." Kristy replied, in an
almost forgiving way.

"I didn't ask if you smoked, I'm telling you to have a drag..." Ruby said.

"I'm not smoking, it's really bad for you!!" Kristy sat up straight and
tried to fight back against the ninth grade girls.

"C'mon, I saved your ass five minutes ago, the least you can do is take a
drag. I'll even wipe out the thirty dollars you owe me." Ruby said. Kristy
began to feel uneasy. She was thankful Ruby helped, but was smoking a
cigarette worth the thirty dollars?

"I don't want to do it! Please stop asking me..." Kristy said, almost
forgivingly.

"Oh, poor baby is too scared to try it. Maybe I'll go to Mr. Wong and ask
for my money back. Feel like doing some dishes?" Kristy shook her head from
side to side. Ruby continued "C'mon, just take a puff."

"Will I get addicted?" Kristy asked, unable to think of a way out of this.

"No way. Who gets addicted after one puff? It takes weeks, months...I'm not
even addicted! Listen: if you aren't gonna do this, move out of the way and
I'm asking Mr. Wong for my thirty dollars back." Ruby said. Kristy was stuck
between a rock and a hard place.

"OK...you win, I'll try a puff, just one..." Kristy said and the girls
smiled. Ruby tapped some ashes from her cigarette and handed it to Kristy.
Kristy waited a few seconds and took it from Ruby's hand. Kristy looked at the
cigarette she was holding between her middle and second finger. The thoughts
of her mom warning her of the addictions of smoking came back to her and her
facial expression changed. Kristy placed the cigarette in the ashtray without
taking a puff.

"I can't do it, I don't care if I have to do the dishes. I am not going to
smoke it, or become a smoker. If I try it, I know I might like it and that's
it, I'm dead meat!" Kristy said. Ruby put her arm around Kristy and smiled.

"That's OK, you don't have to do it, I was just playing around with you.
It must have been hard for you even to think about trying it. You don't have
to smoke today. I was just joking about asking Mr. Wong for the money back. I
won't harass you any more today, neither will they (the other girls), right?"
Ruby said and looked at the girls, they were all in agreement. Kristy smiled
and became more relaxed. Suddenly Mr. Wong came to their table.

"Hey! Kid who don't have money to pay me, are you Kristy Yang?" Mr. Wong
cried out.

"Yes..." Kristy said in a frightened manner.

"I think your mother is on the phone." Mr. Wong said and Kristy got up from
the booth, walked over to the front entrance of the noodle shop and picked up
the phone.

"Hi mom, what's up?" Kristy asked.

"Kristy, I am having car trouble. I'm calling you from the shop. I won't be
able to pick you up. You must walk home. Is there anyone you know at the
Noodle house that can walk you home?" Mrs. Yang asked. Kristy thought about it
and the only person she really knew at the noodle shop were Ruby and her
friends.

"There's a girl from school here, her name's Ruby. I can ask her to walk me
home, but, there's something I must tell you about her, she..."

"Sorry....can't hear you dear...lots of noise at the garage shop. You say
your friend Ruby can walk you home? Great! See you later!" Mrs. Yang said and
hung up. Kristy didn't have the opportunity to tell her mom that Ruby was a
smoker and that she wasn't sure if she wanted to walk home with her. Kristy
sulked and walked back to the booth.
