Part 2 of 2

Karen looked up and there was Brenda. She appeared to be sweating slightly
and although she had taken pains to re-arrange her dress, it was clear to
Karen that at some point in the near past she'd been at least half out of it.
She raised an eyebrow but followed it with a knowing and genuine smile.
Brenda just raised an eyebrow and smiled back.
'Having a good time ?' Karen asked, the question directed at Brenda.
'Yeah, but I get the crowd is a little bigger than they expected. The
kitchen's run out of everything and I'm starving.'
Vance laughed. 'I think they might have trouble getting food in today
because of the storm. I hate to say it, but I'm ready to head out and find
somewhere to grab a bite to eat. I hate to cut out early on Phil and Jessica,
but-'
'We could always come back afterwards,' Kenneth offered. 'Truth is, I'm
just about starving- not that I'm complaining-' he gave Brenda what Karen
thought was the cutest looking hug.
'Well then, I think we have four votes for cutting out, grabbing a meal,
and then playing it by ear. There's a great diner just about two blocks from
here. It doesn't look like much and the locals won't go out of their way to
make us feel comfortable, but the college kids swear by it.'
'A diner ?' Kenneth said, and Karen understood the question, coming from
him, but she nodded.
'Yes, a diner. Like your idea of a restaurant, only cheaper and the
portions are bigger.'
    Kenneth took the jibe good-naturedly.
'Well, if it's good enough for you than it's good enough for the four u
s. But the big question is- do they have a smoking section ?'
'Would I have suggested it- would it be a popular college hangout- if it
didn't ?'
'Sorry. I wasn't thinking, was I ? Well then, why don't you lead the way
and I'll follow-'
The four of them said their goodbyes, because they knew that no matter
how good their intentions were, the truth was that there was very little
chance of them returning. But talking with Jessica and Phil even briefly, it
was clear that they were happy to see their friends leaving in couples. They
had the good grace not to mention that they were leaving to get something to
eat- Phil had told Karen how nervous Jessica had been about the party, after
all.
It was a short drive to the diner and when they got there, Karen wasn't
surprise that they had to hunt for a parking spot. Her own college days were
near enough at hand that she remembered the mystique diners held. Of course,
that mystique had something to do with long hours and low prices, but she was
looking forward to a greasy plate of something she would normally never let
pass over her lips.
'Smoking or-' the hostess started to ask, but she saw that all four of
them were holding cigarettes, so she grabbed four menus and led them back
into the smoking section. There were two booths and she picked one for them
without asking.
'It's a little noisy tonight-' she said by way of apology. 'Jenna will
be right with you.'
Kenneth sat next to Brenda on the outside. He watched her trim her
cigarette and then take a deep draw on it. She turned to look at him, saw him
watching her, and a certain look came into her eyes as she nose exhaled. He
knew that look. It meant that the back of a car was not the memory that she
wanted to close this night out on. He smiled at her, and then the sound of
laughter across the aisle caught his attention. He turned to look and saw
Teresa and Melissa sit together opposite a pair of attractive twins. All four
of them were also smoking. He watched Teresa reach out and pat one of the
boys on the hand and then start laughing again. She was holding her cigarette
in the most ladylike way even as her other hand started waving around, in the
midst of tell some story he couldn't hear over the din. But her left hand
just stayed at rest, the cigarette held up close to her face. She turned her
head to draw on it just as Kenneth looked back at Brenda, who was talking to
Karen while Vance listened and watched them smoke.
    'Professor Billings ?'
Kenneth had let Teresa slip from his thoughts and he was about to turn
and tell the owner of the voice that as an adjunct teaching one class he
wasn't really comfortable being called Professor when he remembered who the
voice belonged to. He looked up just as Teresa took a long pull on her
cigarette. She arched her neck and pushed a steady stream of smoke past her
lips.
    'Teresa. Nice to see you.'
'Hey, Teresa,' Karen added, 'how's school treating you ?'
    'It's great. I'm having a great time.'
'I can see that,' Karen said, glancing over at the twins.
'And my grades are good. I'm expecting to make the honour roll.'
'Smart, pretty, and modest,' Karen teased, but then added 'It's great
to see you again.'
'You're not going to write me up for smoking, are you ?' she teased, and
Vance gave her a knowing look, then asked Teresa if Karen really had written
her up.
'Oh yes. In fact, I might not be standing here smoking right now if Karen
hadn't sent me home with a written warning- and I was only holding my
friend's cigarette.'
'I won't apologise, given the results,' Karen added.
'Mr. Billings, have you given any more thought to whether or not you want
to be our advisor ?'
Kenneth was glad she'd switched back to the more familiar mister.
'Actually I have. I think that I'll give it a try. Now you know I have
no experience being a college club advisor-'
'What club are you in ?' Karen asked.
'She's actually president of the Smoker's Club,' Kenneth said.
'A freshman and already a club president ?' Karen asked, impressed. I
didn't know they even had such a thing as a smoker's club.'
    'She started it,' Kenneth said.
'And what does a smoking club do ?'
'We provide informational and advocate services for the college's
smoking community,' Teresa said, delivering the tagline that she and Melissa
had come up with for the club's charter.
'They have an excellent website- a lot of the information is pertinent to
the entire local smoking community. Smoker friendly restaurants- and diners-
hotels, and other smoker friendly attractions in the area. Plus tips on how
to start smoking, living with a roommate who does- or doesn't- smoke. Even
which lecturers offer smoking breaks during classes- which reminds me- why
isn't my three hour Intro to English lit class on that list ?'
'Oh, I'm sorry. I missed that on the schedule and no one pointed it out.
I'll get it taken care of right away.'
'You're going to drop everything right now, rush back to your dorm room
and change the website ?' Kenneth teased.
Teresa drew on her cigarette again and scowled good-naturedly at him.
'I mean, as the advisor of the club I had better have a smoker-friendly
lecture.'
    'Does that mean ?'
    'Yes, I'll do it.'
Teresa hugged him warmly, caught the look on Brenda's face out of the
corner of her eye and kept it brief.
'Thanks. I'll leave you alone now.'
Brenda smiled. 'I'm sure the interruption was quite welcome, Teresa.'
The girl went back to her friends and Kenneth looked at Karen. 'Remember
the first time we talked about smoking with her and she thought it was '˜gross
and disgusting' ?'
'Only too well. Funny, isn't it ?'
    'All's well that ends well.'
Before he could start a discourse on Shakespeare, the waitress showed up.
She poured them each a steaming hot mug of coffee and smiled.
'I have to apologise. The cook has suspended the breakfast menu until
tomorrow morning.'
'Well, we'll just have to come back in the morning then,' Karen said,
patting Vance below the table. 'I was looking forward to the chocolate chip
pancakes.'
They placed their orders and the waitress warned them that it might be
fifteen minutes before their food was ready- apparently she considered this
an unusually long time.
Karen picked up her cigarettes and took one from the pack. 'That's okay,
we have a way to pass the time.' She brought the cigarette to her lips and
Vance was there in an instant lighting it for her. Kenneth did the same for
Brenda.
'You are going to give us the opportunity to take you out for breakfast
in the morning, aren't you ?' Karen asked.
    'It depends,' Vance said.
    'On what ?'
'Whether you're really just offering us breakfast or it's a package
deal.'
Brenda gave Kenneth a sharp hug. 'Package deal- definitely.'

Paul was lying next to Teresa,
fully spent. She reached across him, pulled two cigarettes from the pack, lit
then both, and handed one to Paul, who took it gladly.
    'I'm impressed,' he whispered.
'Well thanks,' Teresa said in a small voice.
'Oh- well, I was impressed, don't get me wrong, but what I meant was
that you and Melissa kept the two of us straight all night. That's really
rare.'
'Is that all you look for in a pair of girls ?' she teased, nipping him
playfully on the ear.
'No,' he said, trying to sound serious, and then suddenly Teresa thought
he was being serious. She took a deep draw on her cigarette and reached
across him to trim. She bathed them in her smoke.
'I look for someone who is funny but knows when to be serious, who is
self-confident but can be modest, who knows she's beautiful without being a
bitch about it. Someone like you.'
She kissed him, long and hard.
'And breasts. I love a great set of breasts.'
She took his free hand in hers and placed in on her breast.
    'There you go.'
He knew exactly what to do.
Only half the room away. Pete was thrusting back and forth. Melissa was
holding her orgasm back for as long as possible, silently daring him to come
to his first, but he also resisted the urge until she began to moan in
finality. When they were both finished, there was the sound of a condom
snapping off and then Melissa stirred. She had no trouble finding her plug
cutter in the dark and the glow of her cigar as she lit it bathed her side of
the room in a faint glow. She drew on it and then passed it to Pete, who did
likewise.
'So do you guys do this often ?' Melissa said loud enough so everyone
could hear her.
'Only if once is often,' Paul's voice drifted over, being mostly honest.
'But I think we'd like to make it a regular occurrence. What about you two ?'
'No,' Melissa said. 'Our first time, too.'
'You know,' Teresa began, pausing to smoke, 'I thought I'd be really
uncomfortable, but I'm not. I kind of like it.'
'Kind of ?' Paul asked incredulously.
'Well, kind of- I mean having sex within earshot of two other people
having sex. I wasn't sure what to expect. I thought I'd be all nervous and
well, have trouble performing, you know.'
'That's something guys usually worry about, isn't it ?' Melissa asked
before taking a long draw on the cigar.
Pete laughed. 'If I'd been with Gina, I'd have been worried about
getting it up. But not with you.'
'If you'd been with Gina I'd have been worried about getting it up-' Pau
l added and they all had a good chuckle about that.

Brenda, Vance, and Kenneth were sitting around the dining room table
while Karen served them coffee.
'I'd ask if you two had a good night, but Kenneth is too much of
gentleman to answer and I could hear you moaning, Brenda.'
Her friend blushed crimson all the way to her neckline, but Kenneth
reached over and squeezed her hand.
'I certainly appreciated your hospitality,' Kenneth said.
'Well, try to remember that the next to you're thinking about racing me
to the faculty lounge to grab the last cup of coffee in the pot.'
'I know I enjoyed your hospitality,' Vance added, winking at her in a
way that was more cute than corny.
'It's been an amasing couple of days,' Brenda observed. 'When I invited
you over to help me pull up the rugs, I never imagined-'
'That you'd be getting shagged ?' Karen finished, unable to resist.
Brenda looked at Kenneth and smiled. 'Well, I got some hardwood sooner
than I expected, that's for sure.'
They couldn't help but laugh at that.
'Speaking of getting wood- what say the four of us help go Christmas tree
shopping ? I like to cut my own.'
Vance and Kenneth were dressed again in their party clothes. He tugged at
the open collar of his dress shirt. 'Well, I'm not sure how easy it is to
dry clean sap.'
Kenneth sized Vance up. 'I think we're about the same size-'
'You can say that again,' Karen said, not believing she'd let that slip
out, but Kenneth merely continued, evidence of his own dry sense of humour.
'-so we can swing by my house on the way to the diner and get some more
appropriate clothing. I think it's a great idea. We can get a roaring fire
going, mull some cider, spike it, and do a little drunken tree decorating.'
'I'm up for that,' Brenda said. She then pulled a cigarette from the
pack sitting on the table in front of her and Kenneth lit it for her. Karen
watched how natural the act was and smiled inside. Brenda had certainly
fallen back into smoking without any difficulty. It made Karen regret not
pushing her friend harder sooner to start smoking- but then again, she hadn't
known, any more than she'd known that Kenneth would-
    She stopped that thought.
'Okay, so it's pancakes, syrup and tree sap. Sounds like a plan to me.
But I need a good shower first-'
'I think that all of us could use a shower,' Brenda said.
'Well, I have a small hot water heater, so there's no way that we can
get more than two showers out of it at one time. The question boys, is
whether you want to let the girls take their shower first and get pretty or-'
Vance looked askance at Kenneth and then back at Karen.
'Well, you're already pretty enough for me, and I can tell you that I'd
much rather share a shower with you than Kenneth. No offence, Kenneth.'
'Please, call me Ken. And I concur heartily. If there's one person at
the table I don't want to share my shower with, it's Vance here. Not exactly
a guy thing, sharing a shower.'
'Oh, I don't know,' Brenda said, drawing on her cigarette while she
looked for the right words. She exhaled as she spoke, each word carried forth
on a jutting puff of smoke. 'I think I'd enjoy showering with Karen. We
could soap down one another's breasts while you watched.'
'Only if you promise you'll play with my nipples,' Karen said. 'But it
sounds like a plan to me.'
'We could always take our showers- plural- at my house,' Kenneth said to
Vance.
Karen grabbed Vance's hand and pulled him away from the table, her
attention fixed on Kenneth.
'Sometimes, Ken, your sense of humour is a little too dry- no pun
intended. The South Park Christmas CD is in the Bose. Amuse yourselves.'
Karen led Vance upstairs and left Brenda and Kenneth to make out in the
dining room.

The twins had snuck out a few minutes before seven. They thought their
sister would probably be cool with them sleeping over with the girls, but
they decided not to press the point the first morning after.
Melissa was still sleeping, or rather, finally sleeping, Teresa thought
to herself. She'd woken up several times in the night and judging from the
muffled noises she'd heard, her roommate had been awake and occupied each
time.
She pulled a new pack of VS 120s from the carton, pulled the cellophane
off quickly and quietly, and extracted a single cigarette from the pack. Just
then Melissa sat up, so Teresa took a second cigarette from the pack, lit
them both, and walked over to her friend and handed her one, savouring the
special taste of that first cigarette from a new pack.
    'Quite a night.'
Melissa nodded. 'I've never been so glad to be this tired before.'
'Well, having sex all night will do that to you.'
'I'm going to be bow-legged for a week.'
    'They're really nice, aren't they ?'
'Yeah, they are. Right now, I just want to sit back and smoke and-'
'I'll bet you can still feel him inside you, can't you ?'
    'Can you ?' Melissa asked.
'Yeah. It's kind of weird, but I like it. I'll let you relax. I have to
check my email.'
She sat down and opened up Entourage. There were three messages. The
first was from her father, telling her how much he'd enjoyed her visit and
asking if she'd like to bring Melissa over for dinner. She looked at her
friend, sitting on her bed, leaning up against the wall, eyes closed,
cigarette hovering near her mouth while she enjoyed a residual memory, and
replied that she thought that was a great idea.
The next email was from Brittany, thanking her for yesterday and briefly
detailing how she and Mike had their best sex ever after they left the party.
The email was full of smiley faces.
The last email was from a sixteen year-old girl with a screen name of
Kalismok.
'I'm looking for colleges and when I came across your website I was
really psyched. Yours is the first college I've found that has a smoking
club. I loved the website and the school sounds like a great place to go if
you're a smoker. Just thought you'd want to know that your website has made
me decide to apply. I'm going to let admissions know that, too. Keep up the
good work. Kali- class of 2007, I hope.'
Teresa typed out a short reply, encouraging Kali to apply and reminding
her to that the college was also an excellent place to get a great education.
She closed by telling her that she'd be more than happy to host her on a
college visit and that gave her an idea. She sent an email to someone she
knew in admissions letting her know that the members of the smoking club
would be more than happy to host potential student smokers.
She closed Entourage and decided that Melissa had it right. She drew on
her cigarette, holding the smoke as she sat back with her eyes closed and
enjoyed the phantom sensations she was feeling.
She didn't know her adventures in smoking were just getting started.
