Smoke & Mirrors
Part 37: The Farewell

That night before the girls were to leave, Giselle decided to have a going
away party. It was an opportunity to present the gifts she had bought for the
girls. Danielle arrived a little early and Jill and Danielle found themselves
alone. Giselle was in the kitchen and Suzanne was still getting ready.

Danielle made herself at home in the living room, and since there was an
ashtray on the coffee table, saw no reason why she shouldn't light up. Jill
watched with interest as Danielle inhaled deeply.

Jill grinned as she said, "It really feels great to light up, doesn't it?
Every time it's always the same." Danielle smiled in agreement as she slowly
breathed out the long deep drag slowly into the air in a perfect continuous
exhale.

Jill slowly reached for her own package on the table and ceremoniously lit up
in sisterhood. She paused a moment and a smile from ear to ear appeared on
her face.

Danielle could not ignore the look on Jill's face. "What's so amusing, Jill?"
she said curiously.

Jill giggled. "I can't help it; I just think it is just amazing."

"What is?" Danielle said, starting to smile also.

"It's just both Suzanne and her mother used to be so uptight before. Since
you and I got them smoking, they are different people. Don't you agree?" Jill
said smiling.

"Yes, I guess you are right. I have never seen Giselle happier. She seems so
relaxed and confident. She is even more adventuresome now. She seems so in
control of her life now." Then Danielle started to smile.

"What is so funny, Danielle?" Jill asked.

"She is in control of her life except for her smoking. I have never known
anyone to need to smoke as badly as she does. She is totally out of control
with it. She was actually shaking the other night when she came to my house.
I have never seen anyone need a cigarette as much as she does. She is
hopelessly hooked. I never dreamed that she would get into it like that. I
sort of feel responsible. After all, I encouraged her. I got her started. I
taught her how to smoke," she said guiltily.

Jill smiled. "You started her smoking?"

"Yes, I have to admit it. I made sure she inhaled deeply right from the
start. I told her if she wanted to learn she should smoke at least five a
day. She was a good student. I often invited her to my house and kept
encouraging her. In no time, her inhales were like mine. I knew she would get
hooked. I'm not sure why I did it, but I knew what would happen. I kind of
feel responsible for her being a smoker today."

Jill smiled again. "Danielle, I know exactly what you mean. But don't feel
guilty about it. I've done the same thing for many of my friends. It's a gift
to be able to bring a new smoker into the fold. You know, sharing the
pleasure of the smoking experience. It's nearly religious. It's the
development of a lifelong ritual; the peace and enjoyment that every
cigarette gives, getting the unsuspecting to join the inner circle of
smoking. You should be proud of what you have done for Giselle. I did the
same thing for Suzanne."

"You didn't?" Danielle said with a tone of amazement.

"Yes, I did. And I am proud of it. In fact, I find it sort of exciting. You
know. You bend their will; work on them over and over again, until that
wonderful feeling takes over them. Then you patiently make sure that the hook
is pressed deeper and deeper. It is wicked, but someone has to do it," she
smiled evilly. "Then you have a smoker for life, all because of little old
me. It's delicious. Don't you think?"

Danielle blushed. "Well, I'm not sure. I just wanted to help Giselle. After
all, Giselle asked me to teach her. And I wanted to have someone to smoke
with."

"So you wanted Giselle to join the club, didn't you. You knew exactly what
you were doing." Jill said as she looked directly into Danielle's eyes.

Danielle paused, then smiled mischievously, as if a light had come on in her
brain. "I think I now see your point. They both are now members in our club,
our circle."

"Exactly, Danielle. We're part of a sisterhood. It's our lot in life to bring
others into the fold. The way I see it, we did both of them a favor. We freed
them from their self-imposed guilt. Look at how calm they are when they smoke
together. They have fully bonded. It's because of us."

"Why are you telling me this?" Danielle said reluctantly.

Jill paused. "I sort of guessed what had happened, and I wanted to thank you
for what you did. That's all. Changing Giselle's attitude toward smoking
required a lot of effort. I was sensing you might be feeling a bit guilty.
But I want to assure you. You did Giselle a big favor. Just like you'll do
for your next pupil."

"Pardon me?" Danielle piped up.

"Your next student. You know. It might be a new neighbor, a niece, or a
friend or co-worker. You'll do it for the sisterhood. You have the skill.
Don't waste it."

Danielle stared at Jill, not knowing how to respond. Then the thought of
Danielle's 16-year-old niece Audrey came to mind. She was awkward and lacked
self-confidence. Just like Giselle. And look at what smoking had done for her
Giselle and Suzanne. They were now totally confident and in control of their
lives. She couldn't believe she was actually thinking like this. She was
quite close with Audrey, and Audrey always seemed to be watching her smoke.
She seemed curious. She could be easily influenced and she would be staying
at Danielle's for two weeks this summer. Would she dare?

Jill smiled. "You already have thought about your next student, haven't you?"

Danielle blushed. "Hmmmm- no- Not really," she stammered.

Jill grinned again. "We'll just see. I know you'll do the right thing. You
have to. You were born with the gift, just as I was."

Just then Suzanne came bounding down the stairs. "What gift?" Suzanne blurted
out

"Oh! Hi Suzanne. I saw some beautifully wrapped gifts in the den, that's all.
Is it someone's birthday?" Jill said, backpedaling.

"Really," Suzanne said curiously. "Not that I know of. They are probably my
mother's. She is always buying small gifts for someone."

Danielle watched as Suzanne grabbed the pack of VS full strength and
nervously lit up, taking a long double pump. You could see her whole body
relax. She was totally hooked just like her mother. She saw how confident
Suzanne seemed. Thoughts of the meek awkward Audrey returned to her.

Giselle came out of the kitchen, and joined the trio of girls for a cigarette
in the living room. There were now ashtrays everywhere, and the room filled
with smoke quickly. Serge sat quietly on the couch, still feeling a bit left
out. Jill was smoking with her usual sexy style. She threw in a quick snap
inhale, which did not go unobserved by Giselle. Giselle piped up, "Show me
how to do that, Jill." All the girls giggled. Suzanne and Jill quickly
executed perfect snap inhales. The next few minutes were spent with Jill
showing Giselle the technique. There was lots of giggling, but Giselle was a
quick study and was able to master it with little difficulty. Her pops soon
became thick and creamy. Danielle watched quietly. Jill could see the glint
in Danielle's eyes. She knew exactly what she was thinking.

As they entered the dining room, all the lights were out and the table was
illuminated with three white tapered candles. The table almost looked like an
alter. The dinner was a lovely Italian meal. When everyone had finished, all
the ladies lit up their cigarettes nearly in unison. They all had very
satisfied looks on their faces as they slowly drew the rich smoke deeply into
their lungs over and over again, slowly letting the smoke leave their lungs
so that they could get the full effect of the relaxing nicotine.

Giselle produced the three packages from under the table. She clinked on her
glass to quiet down the girls. "Ladies, I have a small speech to make. So
bear with me. First of all, I want to personally thank Danielle for being
such a good friend and neighbor." She picked up her cigarette and executed a
perfect snap inhale. She glanced at Serge as he was mesmerized by his wife's
sexy smoking style. She still made him hard every time she lit up one of
those long whites. Thoughts of their intense lovemaking entered his head.
Giselle's smoking was a small price to pay for their passionate sex. He
realized right then that he actually liked to see Giselle smoke, and hoped
that she would never give it up. Giselle excitedly handed the perfectly
wrapped present to Danielle.

Danielle nervously unwrapped the present and read the inscription on the
lighter out loud, "Thanks for being such a good friend." Danielle blushed
with appreciation.

Giselle continued. "If it had not been for Danielle's help, I don't think I
would have been able to learn to enjoy smoking. I owe it all to my good
friend. She was patient and caring, and I will never forget what she has done
for me." Danielle continued to blush as she examined the expensive lighter,
and said "Thanks, Giselle. You shouldn't have done this."

Giselle continued. "Now, a little something for Jill," she said as she handed
the present to her. Jill quickly opened her gift and read the inscription out
loud. "It's a woman thing. With thanks, Love Giselle." Jill also was taken
aback, as she clicked the lighter and lit up another cigarette. Giselle
continued, "I know that you helped Suzanne learn to smoke and I appreciate
what you have done for her. We have never been closer. Please think of me
when ever you light up." She took another long drag on her cigarette.

"And finally, Suzanne," she said as she passed the nicest decorated package
to Suzanne.

As Suzanne read the inscription her eyes welled up with tears. "Oh, mother.
It's so beautiful. I will cherish this forever. She read out loud, "Like
mother, Like daughter. Love Mom."

Giselle had a glint of mischievousness as she handed her lighter to Serge.
She said rather seductively, "Light me big boy!" Serge read the inscription,
"Light my fire. Love Serge" He slowly brought the flame to Giselle's waiting
cigarette. His member was now pounding.

Giselle, wanted to be alone with the girls so she casually asked Serge if he
would clear the table while they were having their cigarettes. With little
resistance, he went about the task and was relegated to the kitchen. After
Giselle knew that Serge would not be returning soon, she started to talk to
the girls.

"Now I never want to hear that any of you have succumbed to all this
anti-smoking propaganda. We're independent women. We are smokers and we love
to smoke. Don't we, girls?" They all nodded in agreement. "We are not going
to quit. The world should know how wonderful it makes us feel. I know I just
love it, and we would be remiss if we all don't help to spread the word ."
All the girls raised their eyebrows.

Danielle piped up. "We've created a monster. Giselle, the smoking crusader."
All the girls laughed.

Giselle put up her hand to quell the laughter. "It's just that, had it not
been for Danielle, I would have never learned to smoke. I think we should all
make it our quest to help others to learn about the pleasure of smoking.
Don't you think?"

Jill was nearly bursting. Was this the Giselle that once was the most
anti-smoking advocate that she had ever met?

"What on earth do you mean Giselle?" Danielle said, finally breaking the
silence.

"Did you notice that we have a new neighbor? Her name is Sandra. I had coffee
with her the other day. She is about 23, I know for a fact that she doesn't
smoke. In fact she made me sit outside at her place to smoke my cigarettes.
She wasn't anti or anything, but she wasn't exactly for it ether. She's a
newlywed, and a little over weight. She seems always tense and definitely
needs something to relax her." She smiled with a rather mischievous look.
"Her husband dominates her. Sandra told me she was looking for a way to lose
some weight. Look how Suzanne's smoking has caused her to lose all her baby
fat. I think I'd be doing Sandra a big favor if I taught her about the
pleasures of smoking. After all Danielle did the same thing for me." Danielle
again blushed. Giselle paused. "Well, some people just need a little push.
She won't be sorry. It won't take me long to get her to change her attitude.
Look at me. Of course she'll have to smoke quite a bit to quell that appetite
of hers. I'll get her to a pack a day in no time. She'll need to smoke.
She'll soon be in our little club. She'll be confident and slim. It will be
nice not to sit outside at her place when I need a cigarette. And when I'm
finished with her, she'll be a smoker just like us." She smiled as she took a
long hit on her cigarette. The ladies all laughed as they themselves took
long luxurious drags. It was so satisfying. They all knew Giselle would
succeed. Once she set herself a goal, there was no stopping her. Sandra would
eventually surrender, like they all had.

Suzanne's mind began to whirl. Her mother actually wanted to get someone to
smoke. Not just to have someone to smoke with, but she wanted them to become
a real smoker. Someone who needed to smoke. Someone who couldn't stop. Was
this some sort of revenge? This thought somehow excited Suzanne. She held the
lighter in her hand and silently read the inscription. "Like mother, Like
daughter. Love, Mom." She wondered to herself. Could she? Would she? Smoking
was fun. Why shouldn't she get more to join their club? She began to think
about the possibilities.

Giselle finally broke the silence "So the circle continues. After all," she
said solemnly, "It's a woman thing."

The girls all nodded and smiled in silence.

Finally Giselle said, "I could sure use a cigarette about now, anyone care to
join me?"

The only sound that was heard was the individual clicks of each of the newly
engraved gold lighters. The darkened room was lit up by the four yellow
flames. Each of the women almost glowed with a warm spiritual radiance.

And they smoked. They all smoked.

Saint Nicotine looked down from a billowy cloud triumphant that there were
now two more messengers joining the flock.

So that is the way it ended. Suzanne and Giselle ready to go out into the
world to begin their crusade. They would all say. "Those Leblanc girls love
their cigarettes. But be careful, or in no time you'll be smoking just like
them." And they smoked. They all smoked.
