    Karleen's Surprise, Part 2

    Karleen bathed quickly and styled her shoulder length brown hair. She put
on her new business suit that had cost her an arm and a leg. After all she
wanted to impress her client. She laughed to herself as before she left she
instinctively put two fresh packs of cigarettes in her purse. Like she'd need
them she thought. Out to the garage she got in her BMW which had been
sterilized just yesterday. All the cigarette ashes had been vacuumed up and
she had liberally sprayed vanilla air freshener in the car. This was a
favorite trick of smoking realtors who didn't want their clients to know they
smoked. It was hard for Karleen not to light up, she loved to smoke while
driving. After all she had had her first cigarette in a car (more about that
first cigarette later). But not today, didn't want the important doctor to
know she was a weak, addicted smoker. She didn't want her client to view her
as a second class citizen.


    At least Dr. Amy Allen seemed pleasant on the phone, maybe today wouldn't
be so bad after all. The nicotine patch on her arm seemed to be working, yes,
today was going to be O.K.!

    Dr. Amy was waiting in the office when Karleen arrived. Seemed the doctor
liked to be early for everything. Karleen was right on about her mental image
of her new client. Dr. Amy was in her late 30's, with shoulder length blonde
hair cut in a page boy style. She was about 5'2" and had a knock-out figure.
Obviously she took care of herself Karleen thought. Karleen fought back the
urge to cough as they greeted each other. "Well it's finally nice to meet you"
Amy said. "It seems like this move is finally going to take place. I can't
tell you how excited I am." "Likewise, I have a lot of great properties to
show you.", Karleen said enthusiastically. "If we don't find you the house of
your dreams this week then I'm not doing my job." "Well lets go then" Amy
said. Karleen nodded agreement and in the back of the office she glimpsed
Sarah. Sarah was smiling and holding a cigarette and lighter in her hand. As
Karleen started to frown Sarah put the cigarette in her mouth and took an
imaginary drag followed by a look of shear enjoyment. Karleen rubbed the
nicotine patch on her arm and made a mental note to kill her daughter that
evening.


    Armed with the MLS sheets for the properties they were going to view
Karleen and Dr. Amy went out to car. After they got in Karleen swore she
smelled the pleasant aroma of smoke on the good doctor. Come to your senses
women she thought, you're just imagining it! The morning went quite well, Amy
was impressed by the houses they had viewed. The patch was working well and
Karleen was holding up to the pressure of going smokeless. The only problem
she was having was that all the houses they were seeing were two story
colonials. That meant steps, a long time heavy smokers nightmare. After
trudging up a set of steps Karleen was breathing like she had just run mile.
She hoped Amy hadn't noticed. She had done an admirable job to keep her
smokers cough in check, would lack of wind betray her? Karleen convinced
herself she was just being paranoid. After all, Amy was concentrating on the
houses, not the women next to her gasping for air.

    After seeing 5 houses it was just about time for lunch. "Are you hungry
Amy?", Karleen asked. "Because I think I'm ready for a break and some food."
"I'm famished, I was could eat a horse" Amy laughed. "Well I'm going to swing
by the office and pick up a couple of things and then we'll take a break"
Karleen stated. They drove to the office and Karleen was greeted with a
horrible site. Right in front of the office Sarah had just lit up a cigarette
and by the way she was standing you could clearly tell she was pregnant. It
was also clear to her that Sarah hadn't had one in awhile. She was taking deep
drag after deep drag, often not taking the cigarette from her mouth. Exhaling
her last puff from her nostrils while dragging down the next puff of glorious
smoke. As was her luck, Dr. Amy noticed Sarah and said, "What a shame, I hate
to see a nice young women like that smoking while she's pregnant." Knowing
that Sarah would greet her upon site, Karleen had to admit that that was her
daughter. Amy didn't say anything after that and as Karleen passed Sarah all
she could say is "I'm going to kill you tonight, first for the little stunt
before we left the office and now this. We're going to lunch and this is all
she'll probably want to talk about!" All Sarah could say in response was
"Sorry"
