Senior Week

PART TWO

It was a small community in geographic terms, but it became much like a city
in the summertime. There was a boardwalk along the ocean that stretched for a
mile, and the place that the girls had rented was a little bit beyond the
northern end of it. It was beyond the high-rise hotels, and therefore much
quieter, but still easily within walking distance of all the hot dog and ice
cream places, the T-shirt shops and the tattoo parlors.

"Sara and Joanne aren't here yet!" Bryn exclaimed, tossing her cigarette out
the window casually as she pulled the car into the small, gravel driveway.
They couldn't get the key to the property without the other girls, so they
pulled to a stop in front of the house and viewed the end of the street,
beyond which lay the beach and the Atlantic ocean. They had been smelling the
ocean air for a while, and there it was, lying just beyond the sand dune.
Both girls were thrilled at the sight and just stared at it for an instant,
before Bryn jumped out of the car and squealed.

"Let's run down there!" She exclaimed in excitement, jumping up and down with
titillating glee. Carly feared that the more buxom girl might hit herself in
the face with certain parts of her anatomy, and, although she felt that same
kind of eager excitement herself, she indicated to Bryn that she should put
the key back in the ignition so they could slide up the windows. She also
proceeded to collect the two girls' purses, and got slowly out of the car.
Then she experienced a whiff of the ocean, and she absolutely had to get down
there. This was vacation, after all.

"So are you coming, or not?" Carly was a few yards ahead of the car, and poor
Bryn was still doing up the electric windows, having discovered that it was
not a very good idea to be poking into a car without opening the door. She
hadn't expected the window to do something totally nasty when she tried to
zip it up. She started muttering obscenities, and climbed out of the window
and opened the door.

Carly giggled, and looked beyond, at the beach. They both released their pony
tails to let their hair breath.

"Pip-squeak!! This feels awesome!" Bryn kicked off her sandals and cascaded
down the slope of the sand dune, then started dashing awkwardly across the
dry sandy beach, in quest of the water.

Carly picked up her sandals, and added her own; clutching them by the straps
and carrying her purse with her other hand. She began feeling the hot sand
between her toes and the exhilaration of finally getting to the beach after
the long drive. She plodded down more carefully than Bryn had, and smelled
the smell of the strong sea air for the first time since several years ago.
Bryn was correct, the sand felt awesome between her toes, and she squished
them slowly and deeply into it as she walked.

A number of people were on the beach at the end of the street where they had
rented the house. The houses came appropriately priced for a shore community,
and they signed up immediately to go in with Joanne and Sarah on this one
story cottage, because the price wasn't bad. It was warm and the sounds of
kids playing and people talking was completely drowned out by the noise of
the pounding surf. Carly felt that she would love living here. Oh, why
couldn't her parents have chosen such a wonderful place to live? She stopped
and studied a crab shell that was washed up on the sand, and then looked out
at the majesty of the Atlantic ocean, quelling up with its power, and
sweeping down against the sand. All the months of studying books were
immediately washed from her mind with the smell of the salt water, and the
noise of the surf that came crashing in continuously. It was so powerful and
the air was so different. She drew in a huge breath of it, and let it out
slowly. It was a very magical place, where all kinds of things could happen.

"Cigarette, Pip-squeak?" Bryn was there, and because Carly still had her
purse, she had to break her reverie of the moment. Carly figured that now
would be a good time to enjoy her first cigarette at the beach and see what
it was like to smoke in the delightfully salty air. She dropped the sandals.

She took it out while thinking that it was her fourth one today, and she
didn't really need it, but then again, now that they were here, she felt
really free, and wanted to do naughty things right away. This was the place
that she had dreamed of for the past several weeks, imagined herself here,
and imagined a time of complete liberation. Bryn cupped her hand around
Carly's face and flicked the lighter a few times, and Carly chased the flame
around a little bit, but managed to catch it. She drew the smoke into her
mouth, drawing on the cigarette firmly, and then took it out of her lips,
inhaling deeply. She felt the feeling of the smoke going past her throat, and
almost coughed, but then it was all down. She tilted her head up into the
gentle breeze and kissed out a puff with her tiny lips, watching as the waves
brought the sensations into her body. She felt excellent, and decided that
smoking in the sea air was a wonderful thing. She would do it often, part of
her decided.

"This is a truly great place!" Bryn declared through a huff of smoke,
partially holding her breath and the contents of her own first puff.

"Yes, it is-" Carly said, staring out into the ocean and feeling the
enormity of it all while subconsciously shouldering her purse and adopting
her favorite smoking pose. It was becoming quite automatic now, after smoking
in the car on the way to the beach. It felt good.

"There are some kind of awesome guys here, too! Check out that one with the
cutoffs on, the one who is going to get the ball," Bryn said, blowing a
stream of smoke out smoothly as the pair slowly walked along the beach and
Carly picked up the sandals again.

Carly focused on a game of volleyball part way down the beach from the girls.
She saw a handsomely tanned boy with rippling muscles reaching over to grab a
volleyball while a bunch of similar specimens stood around in male splendor,
laughing and joking. Only two of them wore shirts, and she received a
strange, but delightful feeling while watching them. It enhanced that desire
to be a little naughty.

"We better get back to the house, because Sarah and Joanne are liable to show
up any minute with the key." Carly quickly changed the subject, knowing that
Bryn was liable to spend quite a while down here, and she really shouldn't
because there were clothes to be unpacked and stuff. Carly took another drag
of the cigarette, perhaps a little stronger than usual. Trying to seem like
the rational, womanly counterpart to Bryn, she had to inhale it all, however.
It wouldn't look right otherwise. It was a big puff, and it glowed in the
sunlight as she blew it out, and was swept away because of the breeze. Carly
felt that little thrill that accompanied her naughtiness, and she knew that
there was no turning back now. Yet she felt like things were undone, and they
really shouldn't be here, because it was too deliciously good.

"Pip-squeak! How can you say that? I mean, there's men!! Playing ball!! And
no women are there yet! Don't you want to be the first? You might meet some
interesting guy or something, and he might take you back to his place and
give you hickeys! C'mon, let's go and get some hickeys!" Bryn shouted out
into the breeze.

Carly exhaled another puff of cigarette smoke, and laughed. She often used
laughter as a means of dissuading Bryn from doing something stupid, but this
time she was hit with a powerful thrust of nicotine, which she struggled with
until it had passed in slow raptures as it coursed through her system. She
really couldn't believe that she was at the beach, smoking where everyone
could see her. It did have an allure, just as the ocean did, and it was
something that was bursting to get out and be free, but her rational mind was
still in control, and kept it in check.

"Bryn! It is important that we go back now, because we have got a lot of
unpacking to do," Carly scolded, as if she were Bryn's mother. The funny
thing was, that that technique worked the best.

"Oh, jeez! But can you promise me that you'll get involved while we are here
at the shore? I'm definitely going to get involved with someone, and probably
the one with the gnarly back!" Bryn stated defiantly, and then placed the
cigarette into her lips and drew on it. Carly thought that she looked
incredibly sexy, standing there with her tight shirt against her waist, and
her tanned body forming a framework against the bright blue sky, with her
blonde hair blowing off behind her. Bryn was becoming a woman, while Carly
still felt like a little kid. She stared at the men romping on the beach, and
tugged wantonly on her cigarette, then withdrew it from her lips, and exhaled
a long slow stream of smoke from her mouth, drawing her lips into a kissing
pose as the breeze gently carried it away. Well, perhaps she might just
change, she thought, looking down at her breasts.

"We'll see how things develop," Carly stated simply, but the things running
through her mind were not the least bit simple.

They marched back up the slope, Carly handing Bryn her sandals, and both
girls putting their cigarettes in their lips while they wiggled their feet
back into them for the walk along the gravel walkway to the end of the
street.

"Hey, I just saw a guy go into the house next door to ours! And there is a
big, shiny truck in the street!" Bryn called out, urging Carly on.

"So? There are lots of guys here. I'm not surprised," Carly looked at the tip
of her cigarette and sucked on it, then let her smoky breath be carried off
by the breeze with obvious nonchalance.

"Do you suppose there might be a whole housefull of them?" Bryn spoke with
the cigarette just inches from her lips, waiting for her to finish talking
before it went into place.

"Maybe there is, and maybe there isn't, but it really doesn't change the fact
that we should see if the door to our place is open, because it might be,"
Carly replied as they reached the driveway.

"I don't know what the fuck you just said, but come on, it'll be fun!" Bryn
impulsively ran to the door to the cottage next door, taking a puff of her
cigarette, and throwing the remains of it on the pavement beneath her feet.

Carly was caught in another moment of uncertainty between the driveway to
their place and the other house where Bryn was knocking on the door. She
studied on what she had just said, and decided that it didn't mean very much.
She dropped her cigarette, and hurried over to where Bryn was, then stopped
when a guy without a shirt on, answered the door.

"We're selling girl scout cookies, and wondered if you'd like to buy some?"
The tall girl said innocently, blinking several times, and causing the guy to
smile.

He was pretty muscular, as evidenced by his shapely deltoids, and rather
short, as men go, perhaps 5' 8" or so, but he was lean and Carly had
everything she could do to keep her beating heart still in her chest.

"I'm Bryn, and this is my friend Carly, we're just next door for a week,"
Bryn blurted out suddenly, motioning Carly into the door.

She approached slowly, as if she was afraid to enter, then realizing that
this must have appeared uncertain, so she held her head up and walked through
the door with an air of confidence, nodded to the guy, and smiled weakly.

"Cool! I'm Tom. Are there more beautiful girls around?" Tom smiled genuinely
as he pretended to look outside and all around the door for any leftover
females that might be trailing behind. Carly blushed and planted herself a
little bit behind and close to Bryn. Carly hoped that the heat in her face
was not telltale evidence of those awful rosy cheeks that she got sometimes,
and she just put on a really blank expression, not being sure what was
exactly right for the circumstances. But the blank and dumb look was probably
the best.

In the more subdued light of the house, her freckles were not as apparent,
and the long, flowing red hair gave her a certain mysterious look as she
tossed it back over her shoulder with a nervous gesture. Her heart was
racing, and she sincerely hoped that this awesomely handsome guy did not
detect it as she noticed him staring at her. She wished she had taken a
moment to run a brush through her hair. With a casual maneuver, he closed the
door, not taking his eyes from her. This caused her to blush more visibly,
and the wonderful vision of her red hair coupled with the color of her cheeks
made Tom pause for just an instant. That's really all it takes for love to
begin.

"Are you guys trashing this place up already? You should be ashamed of
yourselves! And it looks so cute, too, with the pretty yellow curtains, and
the dark brown woodwork, and- Oh, hello there! Who's this?" Bryn plunged out
into the room, leaving Carly alone by the door as she entered the living room
and found another guy sitting on the couch, puffing on a cigarette and
involved with playing a computer game.

Tom, temporarily taken with the image of Carly, broke himself loose and
turned to Bryn, who was now perched over the couch watching as the silent one
moved his fingers at the computer and went running along corridors, stopping
occasionally to take care of a felon. He then decided, somewhat reluctantly,
to pause the game, and turned to see a pair of breasts on the couch and the
smiling face of Bryn. He immediately took the cigarette out of his mouth and
stood up abruptly, smiling with wonderment.

Tom was rather unprepared for the two lovely girls to barge in like this.
Unprepared, but not at all unpleased.

"Hi there! I'm Sam," he held out his hand to Bryn as he stood up. She looked
at him with mock seriousness and pumped his hand up and down. Sam, who was
sort of tall and lanky with curly, dirty blonde hair didn't know what to do.

"Glad to meet ya! Bryn's the name," She then proceeded to hug him as if they
were long lost friends and kissed him on the cheek. Sam slightly recoiled
from her display of affection at first, then gave her a big, awkward
one-armed bear hug across the couch. Then he stood back and smiled, taking a
drag from his cigarette while looking at Tom, and quickly wiped it out in the
ashtray on the coffee table while exhaling timidly. He looked at Tom, curious
as to the appearance of these two.

"And this is Carly. They are staying next door for the week, and I guess they
just decided to come in and see what's going on," Tom said, although neither
of the guys needed an explanation for the fortunate appearance of the two
girls at their doorstep. Sam waved and said hi to Carly. Carly curled her
hand up and said hi back.

Bryn opened up her purse and withdrew her pack of cigarettes and slipped one
out between her fingers, glancing quickly at Carly, who still had that same
blank expression on her face, then turned to Sam and inquired as to whether
he might have a light.

"Sure! We just got down here today, and our buddies, Phil and Justin will be
arriving tomorrow. Can't wait until they come, because we can all hook up
together and play Kickass!" He handed Bryn his lighter and looked fondly at
his laptop. He turned back as Bryn flicked a flame and thrust out her chin,
boldly lighting up and, in certain ways, kicking some ass of her own as she
drew her cheeks inward and inhaled, filling up that sexy chest of hers. Sam
suddenly couldn't take his eyes away from the sight. If anything could be
described as magnanimous, Bryn's chest, when filled with smoke, would
definitely qualify.

"Sounds cool, I never played that before. Maybe you can teach me? Want a
cigarette, Pip-squeak?" Bryn exhaled as she glided across the room, leaving a
puffy cloud of smoke trailing behind. Carly figured that this was the time to
pull out her cigarettes, now that Bryn had started with this display of hers,
so she slipped them quietly out of her purse and put one into her lips. They
were having a certain calming influence on her, and she needed some real
calming now.

Bryn held the flame out to Carly and illuminated the tip. Carly was a little
nervous, but remembered not to exhale while the lighter was going, and she
thought she did a pretty good job, because the end of the cigarette began to
glow red. It was a good thing she had practiced this in the car. She pulled
on it with a slight bit of strength, in order to look as if she was a real
smoker and did this sort of thing all the time. Then she brought her fingers
to the cigarette and took it out of her small mouth, opening it and exposing
a tiny ball of smoke. She inhaled quickly, slipped the pack of cigarettes
back into her bag, shouldered it, and then went into her practiced smoking
pose as she blew out a long stream. She was surprised when the exhale lasted
into another breath.

Tom watched this whole affair, and looked at the determination in Carly's
eyes. He assessed that there was more to Carly than the innocent girl on the
surface, and immediately wanted to learn more about her. He asked about where
they were from, what school they attended, their likes and dislikes. There
was a certain mystery about those eyes of hers, which seemed to avoid contact
with his.

"Is this a graduation party for you?" Tom asked.

"Yeah, just graduated, and it's good to be out," Carly said, applying to both
girls. She had butterflies in her stomach, and wished they would go away, so
she took another strong puff of her cigarette and the smoke hurt her throat a
little bit as she inhaled it. But it worked its magic, and calmed her down a
little bit. She appealed to Bryn with a brief glance then saw the ash on the
tip of her cigarette growing so she moved toward the ashtray that rested on
the coffee table.

"Oh, wait, I'll get you an ashtray. We haven't had time to figure out where
everything is yet," Tom quickly searched around for some kind of receptacle
and managed to produce an empty decorative candy dish with red trim. Carly
laughed a little when he sheepishly handed it to her, but she went ahead and
tapped the cigarette into the receptacle, exhaling her puff lightly.

"It's not really made as an ashtray, but it makes a wonderful sight, because
it matches your pretty red hair," Tom smiled and Carly turned almost as
crimson as the candy dish. She nearly dropped her cigarette in embarrassment.
Just yesterday she had been at home playing in the back yard, and today she
was at the beach, smoking and talking with a sexy man. She learned that he
was a premed student, beginning his senior year of college, and she looked at
her cigarette and went to put it out.

"No. You really shouldn't believe any of that crap about smoking. Sure it may
hurt you in your old age, after years of doing it, but no one so young and
lovely needs to worry about that!" Tom declared. His face seemed to take on a
look of disappointment, so Carly stopped before she put it out. This guy was
rather interesting. She smiled weakly.

"Show me how to play Kickass!" Bryn exclaimed, sitting on the back of the
couch and then swinging her legs around to the proper side. When Sam sat
down, she slid down to the seat, and took another puff of her cigarette,
exhaling a long plume of smoke. Then she nestled up close to him and shared
the ashtray on the coffee table.

"Does anybody want something to drink? We've got coke, iced tea and beer,"
Tom announced, figuring that he ought to get this request in before the two
on the couch became too engaged.

"Beer, of course!" Bryn called out, and Sam indicated the same request. This
made Carly pause, and look at Bryn for support, but the older girl was busy
mastering the buttons on the computer with her cigarette in her lips. Carly
quickly looked at Tom's eyes, which were smiling at her.

"Um- sure, I'll take a beer. What kind have you got?" Not that she knew
anything at all about beer, she remembered trying some sips of Miller once at
a party, and she didn't especially like it.

"We have a few kinds. Sam likes Heinekein, so he brought some of that, but I
made sure to bring some Lite beer. You look more like a Lite Beer drinker, am
I right?" He said while she accompanied him to the kitchen. She nervously
carried her cigarette and the red candy dish with her.

"Well, I don't drink beer much. I tend to prefer white wine. The um,
Chardonney?" Carly was lying, of course, although she remembered her Mom
using that line once. Then again, she had had a sip of white wine the night
of her parents anniversary, and she kind of liked it. In small doses, of
course. She pulled on the cigarette, and tapped the ash into the dish while
inhaling deeply. She told herself that this was as far as the naughtiness
would go, because it wasn't fair to lie to this guy too much. But she was in
a sort of a dreamland, and she had to admit that it was exciting. As she
exhaled, she was treated to his words, and she felt like she was melting.

"Ah, la femme serait si jolie avec un verre de champagne pour apprécier ca
cigarette!" He smiled broadly, and looked for signs of recognition. She
happened to have completed three years of French at school, and it took her a
moment or so, but then she pretty much understood what he had said, and she
grinned as the last bits of smoke exited her mouth. He had said that she
would look good with a glass of champagne to enjoy with her cigarette. She
answered him with the small amount of the language she understood.

"Mais oui, monsieur. Champagne et cigarettes? Oooo, la, la!" She tried to put
on an air of elegance and grace, and she took a delicious puff of her
cigarette, pulling her rosy cheeks inward and withdrawing the cigarette from
her lips with a dramatic posture. It did not go unnoticed. Then she quickly
inhaled, huffing with a sudden hush and she smiled at him as she took the
cold beer from his outstretched hand. She blew the smoke out of herself with
grace, in a long and flowing stream.

"The beautiful lady knows French, I see. I bet there are many things that you
know which I don't. Wait here, and let me serve the two computer geeks, then
I'll be back and I'll show you the deck!" He took two cans of beer out to
Bryn and Sam. Carly examined the red candy dish, which was becoming her
repository for the ashes, and began to think of him and wonder what his plans
were during the week. She took a small sip of beer after popping the top of
the can open, and she thought that it was just a little rough. She was sure
that she could get used to it. She thought of herself with a glass of
champagne and a cigarette, wearing a little black dress and sitting on the
deck, listening to the ocean. And she had a lover to refill her glass
whenever it was empty, and to light her cigarettes for her as they enjoyed
the sundown breezes by the ocean. Someone that she imagined was as strong and
vibrant as Tom. They would kiss, she thought, taking a contemplative drag on
her cigarette and preparing her lips for the event. She closed her eyes, and
when they were open again, she saw a long stream of smoke, reaching out into
the sunlight of the kitchen windows and gently curling in gorgeous swirls.
She caught the image of Bryn for an instant in the smoke. That was very
curious.

"OK, I got them all taken care of," he said, referring to their friends, "I
think Sam is pulling his hair out with Bryn, but I think it's all an act on
Bryn's part. How could anyone not know where the 'enter' key is?" Tom shook
his head, then he looked at Carly as she stared at him.

"Damn, you are pretty- Come on, you've got to see this!" He ushered her up
the back stairs which led to the deck, grabbing his can of beer on the way,
and taking her hand.

It was beautiful. The house was situated just above the others that stretched
toward the ocean, being at the crest of a small hill. She could see some
other decks arranged suitably for good ocean views, but she thought that this
one was the best, because she could view the whole coastline from here, even
the end of the boardwalk. A gentle breeze was blowing as Tom pulled up a
wooden love seat and indicated for her to sit down.

"Oh! It's really wonderful, Tom!" Carly exclaimed, lowering herself
gracefully into the seat and tossing her flowing, red hair back. She had felt
the warmth of his hand, which had a gentleness and strength in it. When he
released it from hers, she felt very suddenly alone. After all, Bryn was not
here, either, but somehow that was OK. She calmed down her beating heart, and
took another gulp of the beer. Yes, the beer was something that she could get
used to. Then she looked at the cigarette in her fingers, and figured it was
time for another puff, so she gently put it into her lips and pulled on it.

"Over there, you can just see the end of the boardwalk, and there is the
place where there's no swimming because of the rocks," he announced, then
turned to Carly, who completed her puff and inhaled, tasting the ocean air
which also carried away the smoke of her exhale. She looked so deliberate and
serious, yet he had seen the beauty of her smile. Carly stared off at the
horizon as the gentle breeze blew a strand of red hair across her face, then
tossed it back with a flip of her head and sipped on her can of beer.

"And out there you can just see a ship, it's a tanker, I think. Just ahead of
it I can see some fish jumping out of the water. Dolphins, I think," Carly
strained to look where he had pointed, and then she could make them out. Her
gaze turned to Tom's arm, and she watched the lean muscle structure of his
forearm as he flexed his fingers.

"I like dolphins. They seem to be so carefree, with nothing to worry about,"
she said, then took a bigger sip of beer. This stuff was OK, and it was nice
and cold. It felt good going down her throat. She tapped her cigarette ash
into the warm breeze, then brought it to her lips for a good, long drag, just
enjoying the sensation of smoking while sitting here with Tom.

"So do I, They're as independent as the ocean is, and can do whatever they
want to," he said, reaching his arm behind Carly cautiously and sitting back
on the love seat while taking a gulp of beer. He thought that this girl
looked so stunning as the rays of the late afternoon sun glimmered through
her brilliant hair. He loved the look of her small, pouty lips as she removed
the cigarette from her mouth and inhaled the smoke. He felt compelled to
place his hand on her bare shoulder as she tilted her head up and released a
plume of smoke into the breeze. He needed to feel a woman.

Her heart was now beating rapidly, and she felt the onset of those damn
goosebumps that she got whenever she approached something unknown and perhaps
dangerous, but the warmth and gentleness of his touch gave her a feeling of
security. She succeeded in appearing as if she was quite used to the touch of
men by sitting back in the chair and nonchalantly taking another sip of beer,
although she feared he would feel her racing heart as it pounded within her
chest. She felt as if her naughtiness was accelerating rapidly, the way that
she felt while just about to make the long drop of a ride on a roller
coaster.

"Are you going out with anybody, or anything? My girlfriend and I split last
semester. I went away to college, and she got involved with another guy back
home," Tom said, as a way of offering her a way out of the situation. Then he
gulped his beer again.

"No, well, I've gone with a couple of guys before over the last few years,
but we ended up splitting. I figure that with college coming up, I shouldn't
get involved with anyone," she announced, compounding her lies. Carly had
gone out on a few dates, and went to a couple of the school dances in the
past year. In no way, shape or form had any of these relationships been
serious, but, of course, she might go to college next year, although she had
no clue as to where. Over the last few years? Ha! Two years ago she had
braces on her teeth.

She then realized that her cigarette was becoming short. She searched for
somewhere to put it out, and saw, conveniently, that there was a glass
ashtray in the arm of the love seat. She heard the awesome pounding of the
surf as she pulled at it again and crushed it out, drawing the smoke once
more into her body. Then she pursed her lips and blew a big stream of smoke
out, which was caught again in the low sunset, and it made it appear bigger
and brighter than it really was as the breeze gently blew it away.

"I agree. Would you like to hang out with me during the week? I've been with
these guys all year at school, and they get really crazy and I have to get
away from them sometimes," he chuckled, and then grew more serious, "I'll
take the company of a beautiful woman like you any day." He leaned closer to
her, and gently brushed another wisp of hair back from her face.

"Um-, sure. I mean, girls can get kind of bitchy sometimes, and definitely
not fun to be around," this was the first time she looked directly into his
eyes, which were directed at her. They were as blue as the ocean was, and
seemed to be every bit as deep.

At that moment they kissed, and Carly had never felt more wicked, yet
ecstatically happy in her life. It was the feeling of being a woman, and she
bathed in all the sensations that her little body felt, almost literally
melting into Tom's embrace. He tasted very manly, and when he started rubbing
his lips against hers, her roller coaster ride plunged down the track at
maximum speed. Carly brought her arms around his well-muscled shoulders and
her fingers started making a dent in the can of beer that she still held. She
kissed him back with all the passion that had been waiting for so long,
puckering her lips upon his and sharing as much of herself as she safely
could. But, something was missing from his kiss, and she felt as if she
should hold back. She was afraid to go too far. Because, he wasn't the one.

"Wow, that was even more wonderful than I had imagined," he said quietly when
they had finished their kiss, as they sat in the embrace for a moment and
touched noses. "Your taste and smell are the perfect complement to the rest
of your beauty," he finished.

"I probably taste like cigarette smoke," Carly blushed, the crimson color
reaching her face and erupting in a surge of heat that she could feel in her
cheeks. She tried to hide her face by tuning it downward, and felt genuinely
sorry for having smoked the cigarette.

He brought his hand up to her chin and gently lifted her head up to face him.
"I absolutely love the smell of cigarette smoke. On a lady, it is like an
aphrodisiac to me. Don't you go and be bashful about smoking, because I think
it enhances that breathtaking feeling that you exude."

She felt drawn into those deep, blue eyes as they stared at each other, and
her cheeks felt as if they about to burst into flames. To Tom, it just mixed
with the color of her hair, which was blowing back from her serious face, and
absolutely setting him on fire.

"You want another cigarette, as we sit up here and finish our beers?" Tom
said, half questioningly and half as a suggestion. Then he reached for his
neglected can of beer and took a hearty gulp from it. He felt he had to have
some fortification against the sheer magnitude of the power that this girl
was beginning to have over him. The urge to force her against the love seat
and relieve the pressure that was building up inside of him was very
powerful. But, these were mere thoughts in his head, and he didn't really
want to treat her that way. Not yet, anyway.

"No. I don't really need one right now, and besides, I left my lighter back
home. I've got to pick one up at the store," Carly grinned at him, and then
raised her beer can to her lips and took a healthy swallow of the cold fluid
inside, holding it in her mouth and swallowing again. He didn't seem to
detect anything, but perhaps he was just being nice. She pledged that the
next time he kissed her, she would try to do it right.

"Wait a minute, I've got one," Tom fumbled in his pockets, "There it is, I
keep it like my pocket knife, and my little flashlight. I was a boy scout,
you know, and our motto was to always be prepared," he held the tiny Bic up
as if it were one of his prize possessions.

"Well, I guess I'll have just one more," Carly said, reaching in her bag for
the pack of cigarettes. They were becoming very familiar now, and they were
no longer all pinched together in the pack. She didn't really need one,
having smoked so many that day, but if he liked the idea of her smoking, she
