Part 5

In the ten minutes that the girls were outside, Nicole's mother had recovered
her composure after her shock at her daughter's coming out as a smoker.
Calmly she expressed her disappointment and disapproval at what Nicole had
being doing. She had thought much better of her, thinking her a sensible girl
and beneath falling victim to such stupidity. With all the health messages
nowadays an intelligent girl like Nicole should be very aware of the dangers
of smoking. Nicole listened to the lecture in silence, expecting no less. She
accepted all that her mother said and could only respond that it was her
lifestyle choice, not necessarily the right choice but that she very much
enjoyed and was going to continue to smoke regardless of her mother's
feelings. On hearing the extent of her daughter's addiction her mother knew
that she was defeated. She was further shocked to learn that Nicole was no
occasional smoker now but heavily indulging in her habit. She did not miss
that Nicole would have to get herself a job to pay for her expensive
cigarettes.

Nicole would go through the pain of a further lecture from her father. Both
parents accepted Nicole's determination though and had to watch their
daughter now openly smoking in the back garden. Naturally they had forbidden
her to smoke in the house but Nicole was not to be deterred. Over the next
few days they were saddened to see her frequently with a cigarette in her
hand. Not supporting this in any way they did wonder where she was
maintaining her supply of smokes, given that she was obviously still under
age. Nicole merely said that she got them from friends.

A few weeks later Nicole's 15th birthday arrived. Relatives and friends
arrived at the house for a small party. Nicole did look older in her now
regular uniform of skimpy top and skirt along with the high heels which she
now regularly wore. Since meeting Lisa, Nicole had almost immediately been
transformed when she put on the heels and she always felt like smoking
immediately upon taking a first step. Her cousin Caitlin bought her a present
of even longer six inch black leather heels, which after a bit more practice,
Nicole would be happy to totter around in. She had also spent a considerable
amount of time applying layers of heavy makeup. She was in reality now
indistinguishable from her friends Lisa and Rachel as well as cousin Caitlin.
The sight of all four girls puffing away almost constantly on the lawn was a
sad sight for the older relatives but even a few of them were not far from
the girls, smoking with them outdoors.
